- Teach scheduled classes, ensuring a safe and enjoyable workout experience for all participants.
- Instruct class members on effective workout methods, providing demonstrations and explanations of proper techniques.
- Prepare equipment, music, and handouts for each class, and assist participants as needed.
- Maintain a positive and informative exercise environment, addressing questions and concerns from participants.
- Ensure safety standards are met, and department and facility policies are adhered to at all times.
- Greet participants warmly, maintaining a motivational atmosphere that encourages long-term participation and member retention.
- Enforce pool rules and policies, showing respect and responsibility for all equipment.
- At least two (2) years of experience teaching water aerobics.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification (active and maintained through ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NDEITA or equivalent national certification).
- Proven ability to swim.
- Age 18 or older, with a fitness/group exercise background.
- Knowledge of exercise physiology principles related to a well-rounded fitness program.
- Physically fit to lead classes at an appropriate level.
- The work environment is typically hot and humid, with reduced air quality due to chloramines and ammonia compounds produced from pool water disinfection.
- Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds may be required.
- Able to project voice over pool noise to ensure instructions can be heard.
- Instructors are expected to dress appropriately.
