The Bard College Language and Thinking Program is an intensive introduction to the liberal arts and sciences with a particular focus on writing. The program is attended by all incoming Bard students during the last three weeks of August. Successful candidates for faculty positions come from many fields, including the humanities, the social and natural sciences, and the arts.

Qualifications
Applicants should have a strong interest in general education at the undergraduate level, a commitment to writing as one of the cornerstones of the liberal arts, and an active interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration. Demonstrated success as a teacher is essential. New faculty responsibilities in 2024 include participation in a one-week on-campus training session (July 21-26), and intensive full-time teaching during the program (August Terminal degree (MFA or PhD.) is preferred.

Faculty are provided on-campus room and board for the July Training Week and the August Program. Travel expenses are also covered to and from the July Training Week and the August Program.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis beginning April 15, 2024 and we will continue to accept applications until all positions are filled.

Complete applications will include the following:

1. letter of interest which gives a sense of your teaching philosophy, teaching practices, and your approach to diversity and inclusion.
2. current CV
3. list of three references with phone numbers
4. complete sets of student evaluations from two courses you have taught recently
5. writing sample (prose sample, preferably an essay, no page or content requirement)

  • Required Faculty Meetings take place August 8-11 and August 29th; L & T Prgram for students is August 12-28.

Compensation: $6,000
This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
