    JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT REGISTRAR-RIGHTS & REPRODUCTIONS

    OVERVIEW: Oversee the efficient management and productivity of Image Rights and Reproductions.

    REPORTS TO: Director of Museum Services

    COMPENSATION: $27 hourly pay

    BENEFITS: Full time employees are covered by medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance/LTD/AD&D. Employees are able to enroll in our company's 403b plan. Employees will also receive ten days of sick leave and ten days of vacation leave every year, twelve paid holidays and one floating holiday throughout the calendar year. Additional benefits include subsidized transportation (ORCA business passport) and museum membership.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Oversee Rights and Reproductions on behalf of SAM and ensure that policies and procedures reflect the museum's mission and interests, including mitigating SAM's exposure for possible copyright infringement for images provided.
    2. Receive and process requests for SAM images from clients both internally and externally. Acquire curatorial approval, as needed for external requests; prepare Rights and Reproductions Agreements; invoice clients and monitor payments; prepare and send imagery.
    3. Develop and maintain SAM photo archive for SAM-owned objects and gallery installations, including care of physical image resources as well as digital media.
    4. Create and maintain collection copyright ownership status and license agreements information in TMS and files. In conjunction with SAM legal counsel, advise staff on museum's responsibilities regarding copyrighted materials.
    5. Seek to expand SAM revenue stream through third-party licensees, including the revision of fee structures to meet industry standards.
    6. Respond to inquiries from any third-party licensees for approval to distribute images. Maintain and expand existing licensing agreements.
    7. Respond to outside requests to photograph in the galleries. Grant permission using appropriate policies and agreements. In collaboration with Curatorial, determine when new object or gallery installation photography is needed and schedule with the Museum Photographer.
    8. Coordinate and process all photographic services with outside vendors, including appropriate billing and oversight of accounts payable and receivable.
    9. Assist SAM staff in researching, locating, and selecting suitable images of SAM collection for special projects.
    10. Supervise volunteers and interns, as needed.
    11. Perform other duties as assigned.
    QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
    1. Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History or related field.
    2. 3+ years of relevant work experience include substantial administrative experience. Familiarity with art, art history and photographic terminology.
    3. Knowledge of U.S. copyright law.
    4. Knowledge of photography and photographic processes, including color correction, color density, and digital image file types.
    5. Knowledge of archival procedures and handling of photography.
    6. Demonstrated proficiency and accuracy in using MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. Knowledge of databases and budget systems, including basic accounting skills. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat, FileMaker Pro, and TMS is preferred.
    7. Strong organizational and management skills; ability to work effectively with personnel from many disciplines; experience handling multiple competing priorities, and timely, effective decision-making.
    8. Ability to assess priorities and work well under pressure; excellent time management, problem solving, and analytical skills. Ability to take initiative and work independently.
    9. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management, employees, and the public. Ability to supervise volunteers and interns.
    10. Ability to work with close attention to detail and to maintain confidentiality.
    11. Ability to adhere to Museum policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Work areas are inside, in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor and outdoor event sites. Work may require occasional long periods of sustained standing during Museum events.

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Sitting/Standing/Walking: Approximately 50% of time is spent working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 50%) is spent moving around work areas.
    Speaking/Hearing: Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with donors, members, the public, and co-workers.
    Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling: The ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds is necessary for moving material and equipment for events.
    Vision: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use the computer screens and interpret printed and photographic materials, memos and other appropriate paperwork.
    Stooping/Kneeling: The ability to stoop and kneel is necessary for accessing files.
    Reaching/Handling: Good manual dexterity is necessary for computer keyboard use and for retrieving and working with appropriate paperwork, equipment, and supplies.
