Jailer Position
Maintaining order and discipline through enforcing rules and regulations among inmates ensures a safe environment exists for inmates and officers. Jailers assist in emergency situations, must maintain physical ability to deal with confrontational or combative situations. The work can be dangerous, stressful, and unpredictable.
Monitoring all actions and movements of inmates through direct supervision or intercoms; mediating disturbances is essential. Inspecting housing areas detects contraband or unauthorized possessions ensuring safety. Periodically performing total shakedowns for weapons, drugs, fire hazards etc., also checking exterior signs of destruction.
Receiving prisoners involves processing paperwork including fingerprinting photographing individuals storing property after counting possessions in front of the person who then signs valuables over.
Intake release paperwork processed including showering clothing holding cells if necessary dispensing medication according to prescriptions insuring proper amount dosage taken by inmate distributing mail ice requested items operating control room opening closing doors monitoring video screens door warning lights distributing meals collecting trays utensils once meal completed overseeing cell cleaning scrubbing removing trash maintaining healthy living conditions coordinating store call allowing inmates ordering supplies logging purchases distributing items upon arrival
