Position #
The Georgia Cancer Center (GCC) at Augusta University (AU) seeks an Assistant Research Scientist to be a part of its Cancer prevention, Control, and Population Health program.
This research-track position is for an early career investigator who will benefit from mentorship in order to enhance research focus and skills.
Due to the nature of this position, community engagement and evidence of developing dynamic relationships and partnerships will be important.
This position is not considered to be on tenure track.Responsibilities
Programs
Reduce cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality through implementation of programs/resources via individual community members, educational or religious institutions, healthcare, public health and community organizations May organize and conduct community focus groups to determine the most effective cultural components, prior to a program implementation to increase the program's success rate.
Works to relay local community concerns to the Georgia Cancer Center Director or other leadership; identifies community partners; research interests and opportunities, and leverages robust regional partnership networks to facilitate collaborations with the Georgia Cancer Center researchers.
Manages community engagement, equity, and outreach programs that interphase directly with community members, cancer survivors, caregivers, cancer patients, and local organizations across the state, nation, and internationally.
Coalition building, strategic planning, program development, grant writing and program evaluation assistance, deliver up-to-date information on innovative and effective cancer prevention and treatment methods.
Research
Examine the influence of personal, neighborhood level, socioeconomic factors (social determinants of health), and availability of healthcare resources in relation to racial differences in survival and treatment of various cancers and other population health issues.
Research, study and innovatively utilize tools for social determinants of health, human development index, social vulnerability index, and human rights index.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc.
Advancement through the faculty ranks at Augusta University is only through the annual Promotion and Tenure process in which faculty may apply if eligible (typically five-year increments).
College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class.
The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia.
MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices.
