    This posting is for a Transportation Worker lll.

    This position involves the safe and efficient operation of farm type tractors with attachments, including A-Boom/Long Arm Mowers; highly specialized landscape equipment including computer-controlled pesticide applicators, hydro seeders, and mulch blowers.

    The selected candidate will be expected to inspect contract mowing, trimming, litter removal, seeding and other landscape operations performed by others.

    The ability to traverse steep and uneven terrain and work in extreme weather conditions is needed. This position will be subject to emergency callbacks including snow and ice control, natural disasters, and other inclement weather. The candidate will be expected to complete other duties as assigned. This position is in the Greenville Roadside Environmental Unit office.

    Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:


    • Knowledge of Vegetation Management including but not limited to shrubs, trees, fertilizer, etc. using sound horticultural practices.
    • Experience operating equipment designed for all aspects of landscape operations.
    • Experience in at least one piece of Category B equipment (asphalt distributor, front end loader, dump truck, sod seeder, tractor w/sprayer att., brush chipper, conventional pesticide applicator, hydro seeder)
    • Experience obtaining information by observing, receiving, from all relevant sources (contractors, co-workers)
    • Experience in Snow and Ice removal operations

    Additional Expectations:


    Position involves visual acuity, bending, walking and standing on uneven terrain, and the ability to safely and repeatedly lift and carry up to 80 lbs.

    Safety toe footwear will be needed.

    The selected candidate must operate a state vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement.

    Either possession of a current Commercial Driver's License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver's License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.

    Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position.

    As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
