- Serve as primary Certifying School Official to the Department of Veterans Affairs for students who qualify for Veterans Educational Benefits.
- Complete the annual academic catalog approval process with the Virginia State Approving Agency.
- Establish policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations with regard to VA benefits.
- Coordinate student record document processing, including registrations, withdrawals, grade changes, enrollment verifications, transfer evaluations, etc.
- Work with students and families regarding VA benefits in person, via telephone, email, and written communication. Provide information on how to obtain benefits and required documentation and how to contact the VA for assistance.
- Respond to daily communications from students, faculty, and others requesting information & assistance from the Office of the Registrar.
- Serve as a liaison between students using Veterans benefits and other university offices.
- Manage student record storage, maintenance, retrieval, and archiving.
- 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (7.5 hours/day with some evenings and weekends to meet needs of the department may be required
- Experience in higher education, with an understanding of academic requirements, Federal regulations, and common university procedures will be necessary
- Experience working with veterans, military personnel, or in a related field such as social services, healthcare, or government administration is usually required.
- A strong understanding of veterans' issues, including their rights, benefits, and available resources, is essential.
- Excellent communication skills are necessary for this role, including the ability to effectively communicate with veterans, their families, and other stakeholders. This includes both verbal communication and written communication for documenting cases and communicating with other professionals.
- Empathy, patience, and sensitivity to the needs of veterans are important qualities for this role.
- Excellent organizational skills will be necessary to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain accurate records.

- Minimum of three years of experience in a higher education, with Veterans affairs experience, a plus. Bachelor's degree preferred.
