    Job Summary

    Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a comprehensive data infrastructure framework to enable and support enterprise reporting and analytics. Collaborates with subject matter experts, leadership, vendors, partners, and key stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and innovation of the data analytics infrastructure. Provides expertise on utilizing cloud data infrastructure services and architectural patterns to achieve efficiencies, optimize costs, and leverage industry best practices.

    Responsibilities

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Architects, designs, and builds data pipelines to efficiently, securely, and reliably ingest data from various data sources into the enterprise data lake or data warehouse
    2. Conducts thorough technical analysis of data source interfaces such as databases, APIs, file systems, cloud storage, or external services
    3. Provides technical specifications for ingesting data from these sources
    4. Collaborates with stakeholders across departments to understand and integrate their data needs into the overall data infrastructure strategy
    5. Establishes a comprehensive monitoring framework that encompasses real-time analysis of system performance and data pipeline health
    6. Regularly assess pipeline efficiency and reliability and provide guidance on best practices in pipeline design for enhanced performance
    7. Designs and develops a framework for implementing appropriate security controls such as logging, encryption, and access rights, regularly review logs and security settings, and stay updated with security best practices in order to safeguard data integrity, privacy and availability
    8. Provides support for implementing governance policies and ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations within the data infrastructure
    9. Implements data security mechanisms such as encryption, access controls, conduct security audits, and stay updated with security best practices to safeguard data integrity and privacy
    10. Manages and optimizes compute and storage resources to enhance efficiency and minimize operational costs
    11. Responsible for regularly analyzing resource utilization, implementing cost-effective solutions, and leveraging cloud scalability features to balance performance with budget considerations
    12. Mentors other technical staff, guiding the technical skill development. Identify and facilitate training and upskilling opportunities, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team
    13. Researches and integrates new technologies and methodologies into the data infrastructure, focusing on adopting innovative solutions that enhance capabilities and efficiency
    14. Collaborates with the leadership team to shape key decisions on data infrastructure, balancing organizational goals with current technological trends

    Required Qualifications

    Educational Requirements
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field.

    Required Experience
    Seven (7) years of related IT experience demonstrating a progression of increasing responsibility experience including enterprise data warehouse design and development, and experience with cloud data infrastructure services.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred Educational Qualifications
    An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field

    Preferred Experience
    Experience working with reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.
    Previous work experience in Higher Education

    ABILITIES
    Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

    KNOWLEDGE
    Solid understanding of various file formats used in data storage, like parquet, avro, csv, etc., and implications on performance and storage
    Solid understanding of cloud storage services, such as blob storage, data lakes, data lakehouses, and data warehouses
    Solid understanding of data warehousing principles, including data quality, data enrichment and standardization, and data modeling
    Solid understanding of data warehouse architecture patterns, such as star schema, One Big Table (OBT), materialized view architecture, etc.
    Solid understanding of best practices in data pipelines orchestration
    Understanding of data security practices, including encryption/decryption, and compliance with data governance policies and guidelines
    Knowledge data protection and privacy laws and regulations (i.e., FERPA, HIPAA, etc.)
    Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest trends and best practices in data engineering

    SKILLS
    Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
    Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite and other tools)
    Proficiency in data engineering technologies and tools (Azure Data Factory, Apache Spark, Azure Synapse Analytics, Python, Airflow, etc.) on-premises data sources and destinations
    High proficiency in relational database management systems (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.)
    High proficiency with SQL and its variants (PL/SQL, T-SQL, etc.)
    High proficiency in programming/scripting languages (Python, Java, Pandas, PowerShell, etc.)
    Expertise in developing efficient and scalable data ingestion pipelines between cloud-based and Expertise in identifying bottlenecks in data pipelines and optimizing for efficiency and scalability
    Expertise in data engineering tools (Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Informatica, Pentaho, Oracle Data Integrator, etc.)
    Expertise in data warehouse architecture patterns (Medallion Architecture, OBT, Materialized View Pattern, Star-Schema, etc.)
    Strong attention to detail and organization skills
    Strong customer service skills and phone and email etiquette
