Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Kinesiology is an academic unit within the School of Health and Human Sciences. The department has 20+ faculty members, 700+ undergraduate students, and 180 graduate students. The department offers courses for all University students and has programs of study at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral level in the sub-disciplines of physical education and health teacher education and community youth sport development (undergraduate), applied neuromechanics, athletic training, exercise physiology, pedagogical kinesiology, community youth sport development, motor development, sociohistorical studies and sport and exercise psychology (graduate). The mission of the Department of Kinesiology is "Through excellence in the scholarship of teaching, discovery, service and community engagement, the Department of Kinesiology integrates the multi-disciplinary study and application of life-long physical activity to enhance health and well-being of people in diverse contexts."
Position Summary
This position will provide support to the Department of Kinesiology, which includes financial management, personnel management and payroll, oversight of equipment and facilities, information technology, and administrative support. The primary priority (55%) of this position is to oversee departmental budgets, including account management, reconciliation, and policies, and processing purchasing/reimbursements, financial grant administration, and financial coordination of events. A second priority (20%) of this position is to oversee personnel management and payroll by initiating hiring processes, processing hiring proposals and monthly time entry, coordinate interviews, supervise 3 SHRA employees, and assist in personnel policies and procedures. Third, this position is responsible for equipment and facilities (5%), including fixed assets inventory, surplus processing, and reserving/coordinating room schedules. Fourth, a information technology aspect of this position (5%) is to use evaluation computer platforms for faculty and staff evaluations and to assist faculty solving technology issues. Lastly, this position will provide administrative support (15%) to the department by overseeing its daily function, assisting the Department Chair, serving as the liaison for the department to other administrators, serving as the amanuensis for meetings, overseeing liability insurance, and other special projects and duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OR A RELATED DISCIPLINE; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.
