- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Maintain current, active BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements.
- Membership in professional nursing organization preferred.
- RN applies the nursing process of assessment, planning interventions, accurately implements and/or delegates patient care, evaluates that care, and accurately communicates patient information in a timely manner.

- Able to access and enter data into computer systems.
- Serves on committees as requested by the Director.
- Communicates with OR charge, managers and directors to facilitate daily schedule.
- Correctly pulls necessary items for daily surgical cases.
- Responsible for checking email and maintaining education via online learning assignments (LMS) and unit competencies.
- Assists in maintenance of surgeon preference cards based on current physician practices.

- Scrubs, gowns, and gloves using sterile technique.
- Correctly set-up and open surgical suite with necessary instruments and materials.
- Arranges scrub table according to type of procedures and surgeon preference.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon during the case in instrumentation, sponges, suture and supplies.

- Work eight, ten or twelve hours a day. Shifts are scheduled or changed due to the staffing needs of the unit/department based upon volume and acuity, with 24 hour coverage.

The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians/state tested nursing assistants/nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the directors of surgical services, the surgical RN is responsible for the safety and planning of care of the patient while in the surgical department. The RN assists with surgical procedures in circulating and scrub duties. Assists in orientation, training and education of personnel. The RN takes call as assigned to meet department needs.
