- Conduct assessments for Psychiatric, substance use, social and associated medical problems.
- Use appropriate treatment modalities depending on patient need, location and privileging including Psychotropic medications, hospitalization, somatic therapies, individual therapy and group therapy
- Make prompt referral to services, follow-up and assist in monitoring care. May refer to an alcohol/substance abuse disorder program to couples/family therapy, Psychosocial interventions, compensated work therapy, vocational rehabilitation, Neurological testing, and medical services as needed.
- Conduct Psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, including Geriatric and post-deployment combat Veterans, who are mentally ill and who may have psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, or a poor family support network, to include reassessment for any major changes, and follow-up determined by clinical needs, care location, and treatment guidelines.
- Assess patient for associated medical, surgical, or other problems within the Psychiatrists scope of practice and training
- May be in a rotation to fulfill on-call responsibilities after hours, on holidays, and during weekends as assigned.
- Assist in meeting VISN and CAVHS performance measures to include experience in ensuring practice of Psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPPA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statues and regulations, medical record documentation, and maintain mandatory continuing education
- Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessments, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, psychotherapy, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders.
- Perform modalities for patient care to include face to face video teleconference, telephone calls as clinically appropriate. Must be able to incorporate alternative encounter modalities into clinical care.
- Function as part of Psychiatric care team working with other Physicians, PAs, APRNs, nurses and other support staff
- Order diagnostic tests and consultations, discriminate between normal and abnormal findings and makes treatment decisions
- Adaptability is required as duties may change to meet program needs.
- Maintain appropriate licensing and board certifications as applicable.
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Minimum two years post graduate Mental Health/Psychiatric experience

- Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
- Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.
You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

The position involves adult services in Psychiatry at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System located in Hot Springs AR, in the community in person and using virtual technologies.
The Mental Health Service provides a wide variety of adult psychiatric services to Veterans with mental illness and their families.
Primary responsibilities are in outpatient Psychiatric Services.Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

Monday- Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm ( 1-2 days a pay period may be authorized for telework)

Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR
[(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR
(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.Preferred Experience:

7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
