Job description

Classification Title:

Lecturer/Visual Journalism

The Opportunity

The College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) at the University of Florida seeks to hire a Lecturer in Visual Journalism within the Journalism Department (nine- or 12-month, non-tenure track) to begin for the Fall 2026 term. This faculty appointment, renewable annually, has the opportunity for promotion to senior or master lecturer.

We are particularly interested in accomplished candidates who understand and have experience with various types of visual journalism – including, but not limited to, photography, multimedia video, design and/or overall visual storytelling. We are seeking an innovative professional and/or educator with the experience to teach the next generation of journalists to tell captivating visual stories with a focus on emerging digital and interactive storytelling techniques.

We invite applicants who have prior teaching experience (preferred), in addition to nationally acclaimed professional candidates with distinct expertise who possess the adaptability to integrate photo, video, multimedia, graphics, data visualization or other modern storytelling methods into their teaching.

Candidates should hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, ideally in journalism, media, communication or a related field. Candidates will have the opportunity to teach undergraduate classes, and we would especially welcome applicants with the ability to teach multiple skills-based courses in the program, including the ability to develop new courses.

The selected candidate will teach the equivalent of three courses per semester (plus an additional course in the summer for 12-month positions), in addition to potential supervisory work in the Innovation News Center. The candidate also will be expected to mentor and advise undergraduate students as assigned, manage student content creation, participate in scholarly and professional organizations and perform other duties as assigned. This is an in-person position based in Gainesville, Florida.
