    Summary



    This position is located in the Plant Operations Section of the Engineering Service at VA Miami Health Care System - Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center in Miami, FL.



    Duties


    The High Voltage Electrician is responsible for performing a variety of duties as an electrician including secondary responsibilities in general mechanics for door maintenance and repair (e.g., installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, electro-magnetic, electronics, and the installation, maintenance and repairs of door electrical, hydraulics, and pneumatics systems). Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

    • Performing routine installation, maintenance and repair duties and working on power cable transformer insulators and control equipment such as switches, circuit breakers and panels
    • Working on High Voltage which is determined by the National Electric Code Book as 600V and above
    • Installing modifying, testing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical, electronic recording instruments, mechanical and electronic control systems, and other circuit elements found in substations and/or power generation and distribution equipment centers
    • Assembling and repairing generators and rotary converters
    • Troubleshooting overhead and underground cable systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses,
    • electrolysis damages, capacitance imbalance, or cable breaks
    • Maintaining all automatic operating and mechanically assisted operated doors and replacing worn or broken parts
    • Performing regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on all components and auxiliary equipment
    • Assisting Carpenters as required in installation and/or demolition projects; repairing and/or installing doors for which he/she has responsibility to include their own frames and including mortising for hinges and lock hardware
    • Performing as a Journeyman Electrician, which duties include, maintaining facilities of the physical plant and its associated equipment
    • Modifying, making adjustments to motors, switching relays, electronic controls, computerized relays, battery operated and motor-driven floor scrubbers, floor polishers, vacuum cleaners as well as a variety of electrical cleaning equipment
    • Conducting a wide range of tests of a variety of circuits and equipment, detecting faults, such as electrical grounds and short circuits in the system
    • Using all tools and equipment of the electrical trade, working from schematics, diagrams, drawings
    • Performing installations electrical circuits including all types of circuit breakers, receptacles, switches, fluorescent lighting, and other electrical components
    Work Schedule: 5 days a week; Multiple shifts available
