    Job Summary:

    The Carpenter Journeyman I is responsible for executing through leadership direction all aspects of carpentry from frame to finish including an always-growing understanding of all trades involved in the building process. The Carpenter Journeyman I may carry out building-related tasks independently with direction from Master Carpenters. This position is expected to pass knowledge to other team members and is willing to assist as needed in all tasks. Carpenter Journeyman I is expected to have no less than 3 years of carpentry experience. The Carpenter Journeyman I must equip themselves with their own tools for the job.

    Primary Duties:

    • May assist in reading blueprints and designs to work to specifications prepared by other construction professionals, architects, and building code recommendations.
    • May assist the team with keeping track of project timelines.
    • Consistently communicates job, labor, and training needs to the designated site foreman or Project Manager.
    • Responsible for passing knowledge to other team members and willing to assist in all tasks.
    • Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
    • Follows Relax & Company's quality standards throughout the entire building process.
    • Install wooden structures such as rafters, partitions, joists, and stud work.
    • Interior and exterior trim, installing cabinets, shelving, built-in furniture, drywall, and insulation.
    • Adding fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, and hinges.
    • Check and maintain Relax & Company equipment.
    • Load and unload materials and supplies, when necessary.
    • Communicate materials needed to the designed site foreman or Project Manager.
    • Willingness to work occasional on-call evenings and weekends.
    • Utilize work order and purchase order processes as outlined by Relax & Company protocols.
    • Based on project schedule deadline needs, some occasional weekend or overtime work may be necessary.
    • Relax & Company has the opportunity to be part of a a rotating schedule, sometimes including on-call, evenings, and weekends for additional compensation.

    Skills:

    • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
    • Advanced knowledge of carpentry and construction techniques and procedures.
    • Knowledge of or willingness to learn company software including Slack, Google Calendars/Docs/Sheets, and Builder Trend.
    • Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods.
    • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively.
    • Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade.
    • The ability to do basic to advanced math is necessary.
    • Must be adaptable and a problem solver.

    Education/Experience:

    • High School diploma or equivalent required.
    • 3 to 5 years of carpentry experience, is necessary. This position progresses toward becoming a Carpenter Journeyman II.
    • Must have experience using hand and power tools such as drills, chisels, sanders, saws, and nail guns.
    • OSHA 10 certification is desired

    Physical Requirements:

    • Mechanical skills to use equipment, hand tools, and power tools, regularly.
    • Physical stamina to handle the long hours of performing strenuous work during the day in hot or cold weather.
    • Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
    • Physical strength when performing heavy labor is required. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at a time.
    • Must have manual dexterity, good balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.

    Competencies:

    • Complete knowledge of the Junior Carpenter duties and competencies by either working in the position previously with Harbor & Hearth or in a similar position at another company.
    • Must be well-versed in many aspects of carpentry from frame to finish.
    • Must be able to read blueprints with fair accuracy and limited assistance.
    • Have a full understanding and can execute framing.
    • Set and install windows and doors correctly and efficiently.
    • Measure, cut, and install in all areas of interior and exterior trim with near perfection.
    • Have a consistent production pace.
