- Two (2) years' experience in media and communications, preferably with a news media organization, think tank, regional center, university, USG agency, or advertisement agency
- One (1) year of experience in media and communications tasks including printing, graphic development, publication, and social media
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop
- Hold a current SECRET clearance
- Five (5) or more years of graphic design experience with expertise in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop

The Media & Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in shaping and maintaining the positive image of our country
The Media & Communications Specialist will support the Ted Stevens Center (TSC) for Arctic Security Studies, the newest of six Department of Defense Regional Centers
This role involves a wide range of responsibilities from developing promotional materials to conducting media-related research to expand our reach, particularly within the Arctic region
The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, capable of forging strong relationships with participants, alumni, and diplomatic officials, and will possess a strong background in media and communications
Key Responsibilities:
Image Development:
Create and maintain a positive image of the organization through attendance at special events, and by establishing personal relationships with participants, alumni, and diplomatic officials both in the United States and in the Arctic region
Content Creation:
Produce a wide array of print and electronic promotional and informational materials
This includes, but is not limited to, news releases, newsletters, reports, website content for Arctic RC, social media pages (including Facebook pages for public and alumni), and special video projects that support distance learning objectives
Media Research:
Conduct research related to media and communications and recommend strategies to enhance the visibility and awareness of the Arctic Center
Support and Additional Duties:
Provide support for headquarters requirements, academic activities including distance learning, and participation in programs and events as necessary
Undertake other duties within the scope of this position as designated
