    Summary:


    This position provides overall leadership of the clinical and operational management for the transport department staff, including the Access Center, in collaboration with the Transport Director.

    The incumbent is responsible for the performance and results of all disciplines and oversees the execution of short- and long-term strategies in support of organizational goals pertinent to the department.

    The incumbent is responsible for the implementation and proper application of policies, programs, and services as established by federal and state regulatory bodies for both transport operations and the Access Center:


    Responsibilities:

    • Uses clinical judgment based on nursing/respiratory skills acquired through formal and informal experiential knowledge and evidence-based guidelines to globally assess situations through critical thinking and clinical decision making, develop an appropriate plan of action to resolve situations that have been escalated.
    • Approves mileage and education reimbursements for all staff on assigned units. Responsible for ensuring all units have adequate supplies. Approves Lawson orders. Submits all Lawson personnel actions for direct reports. Submits Position Control requests. Monitors trends with attendance for direct reports and addresses any attendance issues in a timely manner. Approves PTO requests for direct reports. Monitors FMLA / SRD / LOA for direct reports. Develops and maintains positive physician relations. Review and sign off on bi-weekly payroll. Review NSI Dashboards on a monthly basis, communicate trends to leadership team and address any area of concern within assigned areas of responsibility. Review NRC Picker reports, communicate trends to leadership team, and address any areas of concern within assigned areas of responsibility.
    • Ensures that budgets are adhered to for area of responsibility. Collaborates with Operations Business Partner and Director to research and explain variances to the budget for assigned area of responsibility. Submit capital equipment requests when applicable.
    • Works closely with the team leaders, Access Center manager and department director to promote the effectiveness of all members working in the Access Center; Collaborates with and assists the Access Center manager with actively managing the quality assurance program specific to the Communication Specialist (CS) members by establishing, implementing and updating processes that monitor team performance and provide feedback that increases teamwork, develops employees professionally, ensures adherence to safe practices and service excellence by the CS members.
    • Handles day-to-day issues that arise with direct reports and other employees in the Access Center as well as other areas of the department and hospital; Contributes to risk management objectives through the timely completion of incident reports and the creation and implementation of follow-up plans.
    • Responsible for manager-on-call duties for the Transport department, including the Access Center, on a rotating bases with other transport leaders and be available to team leaders and directors of Transport, including during off shifts hours; Complete personnel activities in a timely manner that reflects the leadership values of the organization; and Safeguard Children's fiscal resources and establish a culture of fiscal responsibility within the department.
    • Reports quality indicators at the department level and makes recommendations for changes or improvements to the current processes based on analysis of reported metrics.
    • Interviews and hires new team leaders and staff members. Coordinates and develops PEAC goals and administers annual PEAC evaluations / merit increases for direct reports. Provides performance feedback to direct reports, including the documentation and counseling of performance issues. Provides appropriate recognition to direct reports while maintaining positive staff relations through Evidence Based Leadership and Just Culture. Completes scouting reports and weekly rounding on direct reports. Ensures that direct reports are kept abreast of changes within the unit, department, division and organization. Provides mentoring to direct reports and provides them with developmental opportunities that will help them achieve their career goals. Administers disciplinary action to direct reports when necessary, up to and including termination of employment. Develops and implements Action Plans as a result of the feedback received from the annual Employee Opinion Survey. Ensures that all staff members in assigned area are responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating and coordinating patient care.
    • Ensures that all staff members are accountable, and that patient care meets the standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights and guest relations. Ensures that all staff members deliver competent and skilled care to patients and families according to their identified needs and does so with a team-orientation, an emphasis on good customer relations, sound clinical judgment and appropriate decision making abilities that take into consideration evidence based practice.
    • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards. Responsible for ensuring clean sweeps are conducted. Responsible for ensuring that appropriate audits are conducted. Ensures readiness for disease specific certifications audits (where applicable). Ensures regulatory readiness for assigned areas. Ensures unit environmental rounds are conducted. Ensures staff licenses and certifications are not expired. Ensures HR file and shadow files are up to date. Ensure that area of responsibility is ready for tracers and participate in the tracer process as necessary. Review SafeLinks. Ensures that Patient Health Information (PHI) is protected and secured at all times. Adheres to all infection prevention initiatives (i.e. hand hygiene, proper disposal of waste, etc.)
    • Stays abreast of regulatory requirements relevant to the dispatching medical transport teams, interfacility transfers and air medical communication standards; Implement a program of ongoing regulatory readiness that includes evidence of compliance; communicates changes in goals and practice related to changing regulations and policy to Access Center members; ensures each Access Center RN/CS member understands and implements practice changes in accordance with regulatory agency recommendations and the national patient safety goals, as well as current hospital policies and procedures and the goals of the Access Center.
