    Director, Energy and Environmental Policy (Portland, OR) #111997

    PacifiCorp is seeking customer-centric candidates to grow and sustain our commitment to a culture of customer service excellence, environmental sustainability and diversity, equity and inclusion.

    Accountable for the activities and outcomes of the environmental policy and strategy function for the states of California, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, Idaho and Utah.

    Responsible for managing the activities and staff associated with environmental policy issues impacting the company and for developing company strategies on various complex environmental issues.

    Provide leadership and direction to management that guides the company's interest in fulfilling its Environmental RESPECT commitments.
    Evaluate proposed state and federal laws and regulations that have the potential to impact company operations or policies. Integrate environmental assessments of existing and anticipated environmental regulations into the planning and operating decisions of the business units.
    Advise management of the impact of proposed legislation and regulation and develop potential compliance strategies.

    Supervise, plan, direct and coordinate the activities and budget of the environmental policy and strategy staff and outside consultants.

    Provide direction and counsel to ensure the company is proactively working to create responsible environmental laws and sound public policy.

    Maintain an understanding of processes within the business units and a working knowledge of environmental issues for all environmental aspects.

    Provide leadership and direction to management on the Environmental RESPECT principles.
    Assist in the development of strategic environmental plans and initiatives.
    Represent the company when interfacing with regulators, environmental agencies, commercial counterparties, and other interested stakeholders.

    Responsible for selecting, coaching, and developing employees and managing salaries in accordance with the company's talent management and succession planning processes.

    Review and evaluate employee performance and prepare annual reviews.
    Implement and support company programs and policies.
    Develop and maintain legislation and regulatory contacts as necessary to provide essential input on relevant laws and regulations. Prepare and submit testimony in legislative or regulatory hearings.

    Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Governmental Affairs, Communications or a related field; A minimum of ten years of related progressive work experience.

    A minimum of five years direct people management experience.

    Management skills including the ability to establish objectives, develop and execute policy, direct and monitor resources, and recommend and oversee development or implementation of systems, programs, or processes.

    Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations.
    Experience in budget preparation, analysis and cost tracking.

    Must possess the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with business unit personnel, government agencies, trade groups, outside stakeholders, and others.

    Superior writing skills, with the ability to read and summarize voluminous regulatory and legislative proposals and prepare comments on behalf of the Company.

    Knowledge of external business environment, laws, political climate and the Company's strategies, policies, practices, and procedures.
    Advanced knowledge of environmental laws and regulations
    JD, MBA or similar advanced degree.


    • This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 20% of salary.
