    Position: Digital Accessibility & Instructional Technology Consultant


    Department: IT Services


    Status: Full Time


    The Digital Accessibility and Instructional Technology Consultant supports the development, adoption, procurement, implementation, and management of accessible ICT. To support the University's commitment to the ADA and section 504/508 of the Rehabilitation Act, responsibilities include implementation and consultation on conformance to accessibility regulations and policies, consult, test, and verify the accessibility of ICT; communicate with vendors on the accessibility of ICT adopted or procured; evaluate assistive technology and accessibility testing tools; investigate new technologies, train faculty and staff with the development of accessibility skills, and collaboration with University administrators, cross‑functional teams, developers, faculty, staff, administrative and academic units, and campuses; and provide recommendations for accessible implementation. With specialized knowledge of the principles, theories, and concepts of pedagogy and the use and delivery of instructional technology and distance learning applications in complex environments for a diverse audience, the position also guides and supports faculty in their adoption and use of technology tools to support teaching and learning.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities


    Digital Accessibility Duties & Responsibilities

    • Interpret and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws related to disability and educational environments.
    • Analyze and assess vendor‑provided Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACR/VPATs) to provide recommendations on procurement and contract needs.
    • Provide recommendations to external vendor partners on improvements needed to meet compliance requirements related to digital accessibility.
    • Collaborate with Student Disability Services staff at the undergraduate and graduate levels on initiatives benefiting students, faculty, and staff.
    • Provide recommendations, consultation, training, and guidance to faculty, staff, and departments on creating accessible digital content in all formats.
    • Evaluate and test digital documents and multimedia for accessibility using assistive technology tools (e.g., screen readers, voice recognition software).
    • Remediate inaccessible documents and multimedia to meet institutional accessibility standards.

    Instructional Technology Duties & Responsibilities

    • Facilitate discussions with faculty to brainstorm innovative solutions to instructional problems.
    • Provide recommendations, consultation, training, and guidance to faculty on methods to improve teaching and learning activities.
    • Collaborate with colleagues in the Library, IT, and Adult and Online Education units as well as other university constituents on various projects and initiatives.
    • Engage with counterparts at all other institutions through professional organizations, formal and informal collaborations, and other avenues to gain perspective on teaching and learning technology application in the broader higher education community.

    General Responsibilities

    • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
    • Occasional travel to visit satellite campuses; attend/present at professional association conferences.
    • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, Information Security, HIPAA, FERPA and other state and federal mandates.
    • Other job‑related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
    • This position is eligible for remote work. Incumbent will be provided a Remote Work Addendum that details the specifics of the remote work arrangement if position will be remote.

    Education/Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in education, instructional technology, or equivalent professional experience. Master's degree preferred.
    • 3‑5 years related experience utilizing technologies in an educational environment.
    • Professional experience in higher education preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Proven accessibility experience.
    • Practical experience with screen‑readers, text‑to‑speech tools, PDF remediation.
    • Familiarity with civil rights laws (ADA, Section 508/504), WCAG.
    • Experience in online learning and Learning Management Systems (LMS) in an educational environment.
    • Working knowledge of current learning theory and pedagogical practices in blended, assisted, and online course delivery modes including hybrid and hyflex models of instructional delivery.
    • Experience in providing engaging professional development training sessions in the use of technology for instructional purposes.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical colleagues.
    • Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills, especially demonstrated in working with faculty, students and staff.
    • Enthusiasm, interest, and flexibility in acquiring new or emerging technology skills.
    • Consultative approach to applying technological solutions to teaching and learning.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office, multimedia tools, and distance learning applications.
    • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing member of the University community.
    • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
    • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
    • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment.
