    Job Title: Phlebotomist/ Department of VA

    Location: Danville, IL

    Contract: Contractor/ Dept. of VA

    Period of Performance: Full-time position- 1-year base contract / plus four (4) year option= 5-year contract.

    Start Date: TBD

    Salary: $28.57 an hour with an additional $4.57 an hour in health & welfare benefits = $33.14 an hour

    Clearance Requirement: Tier II Public Trust Background Investigation is required and also must be able to pass a NACI background check.

    Preference: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required and maintained during their work at the VA.

    Proficiency in the use of the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture

    (VISTA) system and the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS)

    Additional: Two shifts available: 1st Shift: Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., alternating hours. Overtime on an as-needed basis.

    Job Description Phlebotomist:

    Qualifications:

    • Experience: Minimum one year experience.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required and maintained during their work at the VA.
    • Proficient in Written and Spoken English
    • Computer Literate
    • Proficiency in the use of the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture

    (VISTA) system and the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS)

    Job Description:

    • Perform blood collection requiring knowledge of clinical science to understand the multiplicity of tests and specimen requirements, the mechanics of venipuncture, and patient preparation.
    • Perform phlebotomy to obtain patient specimens for laboratory testing including blood cultures and compatibility samples.
    • Accession and receive samples into the VA laboratory information system package for in-house testing or send-outs to reference laboratories.
    • Instruct patients in proper collection of 24-hour urine and other samples collected at home.
    • Prepare collection, measure, and record 24-hour urine volumes.
    • Transport specimens to the laboratory including those requiring special handling.
    • Look up laboratory order numbers and patient information for outpatient draws.
    • Use a numbering system to check patients into the laboratory.
    • Answer phone and direct calls to other laboratory sections
    • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills and good customer relations with Patients, Families, and all other Medical Center Employees.
    • Provide general clerical and administrative support for the area.
    • Stock and maintain specialized supplies used in the drawing area.
