  • Position Summary:

    This position is responsible for reviewing and coordinating insurance approvals for stem cell transplants and cellular therapies. There is a need to create collaborations with organizational billing and reimbursement teams to ensure proper financial documentation and billing of services have been performed. Additional responsibilities around timely billing of specialty services that are not captured within the routine process flow.

    Service

    Serves as a resource to the multi-disciplinary team

  • Provides team education on an as needed basis.
  • Participates in the patient selection process by presenting relevant information to the Patient Review Meeting.
  • Collaborates with coordinators, social workers and pharmacists to meet patient needs.
  • Efficiency and Effectiveness

    Collaborates with the hospitals billing and registration departments to ensure appropriate patient billing

  • Collaborates with registration to ensure patients are appropriately registered.
  • Reviews patient accounts on a daily basis to ensure proper approval or write off.
  • Communicates with billing to reconcile charges on an as needed basis.
  • Provides information as requested to the billing team.
  • Collaborates with the hospital's finance department to ensure appropriate reimbursement

  • Supports tracking of charges captured by the Medicare Cost Report.
  • Works to ensure appropriateness of charges to the Medicare Cost Report.
  • Maintains current knowledge of regulation regarding the Medicare Cost Report.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives

  • Attends TCT Quality Review and Improvement as required.
  • Provides expertise on all transplant and cellular therapy financial topics.
  • Provides clinical teams with information to ensure patient care is carried out.
  • Verifies, approves, and educates regarding insurance coverage for all potential recipients, recipients, potential healthy donors and healthy donors:

  • Verifies and approves insurance coverage for all potential recipients prior to evaluation, during annual follow-up, and on an as needed basis.
  • Collaborates with the hospital managed care department to obtain program contracts and one-time contracts
  • Supports tracking of healthy donor charges and capture by the Medicare Cost Report.
  • Stays abreast of Medicare and ASTCT regulations regarding transplant and cellular therapy reimbursement.
  • Maintains current and accurate demographic and insurance information in hospital data systems.

    Ensures Suitability of Transplant from a Financial Perspective for all potential recipients

  • Confirms there is a strong financial plan in place to ensure maintained functionality of the transplant
  • Expresses any financial concerns or hesitations to the Transplant Team regarding the appropriateness of potential transplant recipient or healthy donor.
  • Position Qualification:

    Bachelors degree preferred

    2 years experience of medical billing and insurance related experience preferred
