    Position: Maxim Partners - Business Development Internship

    Timeframe: May/June 2024 start, and will last 12 weeks through end of summer

    Commitment: Full-time Internship

    Location: Remote/Flexible

    COMPANY OVERVIEW

    Maxim Corporate Partners ( Maxim ) is a Chicago-based impact investment firm that partners with private, entrepreneurial companies in the wellness and education sectors. Maxim infuses the resources needed to maximize stakeholder value, including industry specific expertise through its operating partners and network of wellness and education executives. Capital is sourced from the Maxim team members and supplemented with family office and institutional capital. Maxim's unique approach yields great alignment of interests with all stakeholders and results in investments that carry a superior risk/return profile.

    Maxim was founded in 2010 and holds five actively managed portfolio companies including Zenwise, a gut health focused supplement brand, Education Canada Group, a leading vocational college in western Canada serving domestic and international students, Stratum Nutrition, a proprietary ingredients supplier and distributor, and a consumer hemp wellness brand, Green Compass. Maxim's most recent investment closed in July 2023 is a majority position in Carbon Performance. Carbon is an innovative resistance focused fitness club based in Nashville which, in partnership with founder Brent Laffey, Maxim will expand throughout Tennessee other major metropolitan areas. Maxim's principals also hold passive investments in several privately held companies including six within its industry sectors.

    Maxim's team consists of 5 full-time and 16 part-time professionals. Each investment sector is headed by a practice leader with guidance from Maxim's founder and Managing Partner who holds experience in all sectors. The firm's principals actively seek investment opportunities ranging from $2 million to $30 million of equity capital from its $60 million fund consisting of Maxim team members and family office investors. Since inception $53 million of investor capital has grown to an estimated realized and unrealized value of $365 million and $180 million, respectively. In 2021 Maxim sold its Zesty Paws portfolio company for $610 million to H&H, a Hong Kong-based public company.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Business Development Intern role will assist in business development for the fund, will work with a small team and has high visibility to the senior leadership in the firm, including but not limited to the following responsibilities:

    Lead Maxim's new investment origination consisting of:

    o Identify and screen potential acquisition targets, paying attention to financial performance, market position, and growth potential

    o Conduct introductory calls with founders and develop initial assessments and recommendations for potential deals

    o Regularly navigate and update the CRM to ensure accurate and current information on potential targets, maintain organized records of potential deals, including contact information, deal status, and key findings

    o Stay informed about industry best practices for deal origination, continuously improving the process and optimizing workflow

    Assist with Maxim's market research consisting of:

    o Conduct in-depth market research to identify industry trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging opportunities in relevant verticals

    o Analyze and synthesize data from various sources to provide insights into potential sectors for investment

    o Proactive primary and secondary research including attendance (via phone or in person) at bi-weekly internal industry meetings

    QUALIFICATIONS

    5 years of experience in a sales or business development function

    Excellent analytical and communication skills (both written and verbal), a high level of maturity, and exceptional academic performance

    Familiar with CRM systems (e.g., Hubspot, Salesforce)

    Strong interest in many or all of Maxim's investment verticals (Education, Fitness, Nutrition, and Animal Wellness)

    Demonstrated passion for working with growth oriented private companies

    The successful candidate will be a self-starter with integrity, a team player with a positive attitude, detail oriented and organized, and will exhibit a strong work ethic and proven ability to learn quickly, work independently and multi-task efficiently
