    About the Islamic Department

    The Met boasts one of the most extensive Islamic art collections globally. The Islamic Art Department has been a pioneering force, with notable developments in gallery installations and acquisitions.

    Primary Responsibilities & Duties

    • Manage the study, exhibition, and publication of objects from the department's collection.
    • Acquire new art pieces for the collection.
    • Curate groundbreaking exhibitions that offer new insights and appeal to diverse audiences.
    • Cultivate relationships with donors, trustees, and colleagues from various institutions.
    • Collaborate with scholars to expand the collection's narrative.
    • Engage in outreach activities, travel to relevant regions, and leverage digital platforms.

    Education & Experience

    • Ph.D. in Islamic art history with expertise in the art and history of the Islamic world.
    • 10-15 years of experience in curatorial or academic roles related to early Islamic Art.
    • Proficiency in Arabic language and historical sources.
    • Demonstrated scholarly achievements through publications or exhibitions.
    • International applicants with degrees from non-U.S. institutions are welcome.

    Compensation Range

    • Pay Range: $110K - $150K/year.
    • The provided salary range is indicative and may vary based on candidate qualifications.

    Location Requirements

    Employees must be located in proximity to the Museum within New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania.
