    Description
    The Licensed Counselor works with matriculated and non-matriculated full- and part-time students with a wide-range of issues.

    The Counselor provides individual counseling, crisis intervention, assessment, case management, consultation, outreach, development and implementation of relevant programming and training to the campus community.

    The Counselor provides supports to aide in the students overall success in reaching their goals and addressing their specific needs.

    The Counselor will perform the essential functions noted below.

    Qualifications:
    A


    Educational Background:
    Master's degree in counseling, social work, mental health, or closely related field required. Licensure of LMHC, LMSW, LCSW, or equivalent in New York State required. Minimum of two years counseling experience; experience in a community college setting is preferred.

    Special Skills:

    Ability and desire to work with the college student population to provide a variety of counseling, assessment, crisis intervention, and referral to specialized mental health resources as needed.

    Ability to maintain required confidentiality, student record documentation and retention, and knowledge of NYS laws and licensure requirements related to mental health counseling.

    Computer proficiency required. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required.


    Essential Functions:
    A


    Counseling:

    • Provide counseling, crisis assessment/evaluation, intervention, support, and follow-up to students referred to the Center for Student Well-Being from a number of campus areas including but not limited to, RADAR Reports, student intervention team, faculty, staff, students, parents and others.
    • Provide assessment of students experiencing mental health crisis and provide clinically appropriate short-term interventions and/or make appropriate long-term referrals.
    • Serve as a member of the student intervention team and Crisis Response Team.
    • Assist in the coordination of crisis response protocols in collaboration with staff of the Center for Student Well-Being, the AVP of Student Affairs and other member of the Crisis Response Team.
    • Serve as the site supervisor for graduate interns in mental health and/or social work graduate degree programs; supervision includes meeting with the intern for weekly to hear about and address the students clinical work, address professional issues, and assess and give feedback on client assignments.
    • Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, and administration about student behavioral concerns and effective methods to respond to students in distress.
    • Work collaboratively with the Center for Student Well-Being, Student Affairs departments, and other college offices to develop programming and workshops to educate the students about mental health issues, resources, response, and advocacy.
    • Review and document student records, reports, and crisis response incidents. Maintain appropriate records as required by currently accepted standards of professional practice.
    • Support and enhance the healthy growth and development of students through consultation, outreach, and referral to campus resources, community providers, and other services outside the college as appropriate.
    • Provide outreach and support to students impacted by traumatic events, including possible collaboration with faculty, to ensure academic continuity.

    Student Development:

    • Review on a periodic basis the services/activities offered to meet identified needs of full and part time student populations.
    • Serve in an advocacy role in supporting student needs relating to the Division of Student Affairs
    • Work with Student Affairs staff and faculty to identify and provide outreach services that enhance student personal growth and retention.
    • Provide information and updates regarding mental health concerns and trends at the local and national level.
    • Provide support in conjunction with the Center for Student Well-Being to prospective students, new students during orientation, on visitation days, and in classes.

    Other:

    • Pursue continued professional development and licensure requirements in the field.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Health Services.

    Benefits and salary range:

    • Starting salary in the range of $53,000-$55,000 and is commensurate with qualifications
