    Position Overview:
    Manages the nursing unit ensuring that it functions properly and safely on a 24-hour basis


    Qualifications:

    Education BSN from accredited school of nursing preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and ability can be acquired.

    Experience Minimum of 4 years clinical experience, including at least 2 years of management experience, preferably in a geriatric setting.

    Specialized Knowledge and Skills, License/Certification Microsoft Office, E-mail and Internet navigation. Valid NYS Professional Registered Nurse License Current CPR Certification. Leadership Competencies

    Demonstrates Integrity Responsibilities:
    Manages the nursing unit ensuring that it functions properly and safely on a 24hour basis. 1. Reviews the medical record to ensure compliance. 2. Conduct environmental rounds and follow up with resolution. 3. Assigns duties to licensed personnel and supervises ancillary personnel. 4. Ensures timely completion and submission of all unit reports. 5.

    Displays ownership of their unit, supervising on 24-hour basis and communicating with staff on all 3 shifts to be fully apprised of all events taking place.

    6. Assesses need for additional or needed equipment. Oversees the care and management of patients/residents and ensures that appropriate care and treatment are provided 1. Facilitates inter-disciplinary care planning meetings and assists in developing the plan of care 2. Oversees the provision of care for licensed and non-licensed staff 3. Collaborates with medical and other inter-disciplinary team members to ensure clinical management is optimal 4. Performs audits as required 5. Participates in discharge planning Oversees and Responds to patient/resident/family concerns, issues or complaints 1. Ensures Accidents/Incidents are documented in Occurrence Report and makes recommendations for corrective action. 2. Notifies D.N.S. and Security of alleged abuse 3. Participates in investigation 4. Gathers necessary documentation for NYS DOH and internal investigations 5.

    Ensures resolution Responsible for unit staffing plan, developing work schedules for unit employees to ensure appropriate staffing levels and staffing mix are maintained.

    1. Communicates staffing needs and scheduling requirements to appropriate staff for implementation and follows up to ensure staffing is appropriate. Oversees and manages clinical care and emergency response 1. Evaluates all admissions and ensures compliance of admission policy and procedure 2. Responds to all residents reported to have had an occurrence and assess for potential injury 3. Ensures all central line and intravenous therapies are completed as per policy 4. Responds to all emergency codes and provides appropriate direction Manages performance of direct and indirect reports. Provides orientation, coaching, training and development. Takes corrective action when necessary. Utilizes corporate services resources such as Human Resources, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Information Services, Marketing, etc., as appropriate. Ensures appropriate staffing and resources to support department/agency services. Monitors productivity throughout the year and participates in annual budget preparation. Interviews and participates in the selection process for qualified staff in collaboration with Human Resources and department management.
