    Description:Responsibilities

    Basic Purpose
    Responsible for the evaluation of strategic renewable opportunities that increase shareholder and/or customer value. Directs contract negotiations. Oversees the delivery of the supply side Action Plan outlined in the Integrated Resource Plan for origination-related activities. Ensures alignment with short and long term organizational goals and objectives. Works closely with top executive management to keep them up-to-date on strategic opportunities and threats.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    Evaluates strategic renewable opportunities that increase shareholder and/or customer value. Potential opportunities include, but are not limited to:

    • Customer growth initiatives
    • Partnerships with customers
    • Acquisition of generation, transmission and other assets
    • Partnerships with other industry businesses
    • Membership in regional market organizations
    • Other new business opportunities

    Forms and leads high-level cross functional teams in developing innovative business structures, conducting rigorous analysis of strategic opportunities and threats, developing and executing implementation plans and developing regulatory and legislative strategies that may be required.

    Presents results of evaluations and makes recommendations to senior management regarding strategic opportunities and response to strategic threats.

    Works closely with senior management to identify and prioritize efforts in support of organizational objectives.

    Testifies as needed before regulatory bodies and participates in regulatory activities regarding:

    • Procurement issues
    • Renewable policy and strategy
    • Renewable portfolio standard

    Directs negotiations on all contracts negotiations, including but not limited to engineering, procurement and construction, power purchase agreement, asset purchase and sale agreements, qualified facilities (QF), green tariff customers and distributed generation and all non-standard transactions.

    Coordinates, implements and delivers the supply side Action Plan outlined in the Integrated Resource Plan for origination-related activities.

    Designs, develops, and delivers strategies and plans for effective commodity contract management, restructuring, and dispute resolution with respect to wholesale (including qualifying facility transactions) and retail (industrial and large commercial) special contract customers. Resolves contractual issues where bi-lateral negotiation is required.

    Establishes negotiation strategies that mitigate pricing and contract issues to the satisfaction of the customer, company, and regulatory bodies. Directs customer negotiations to obtain the optimum cost/risk balance to customer(s) and the company.

    Maintains internal accountability for contract performance when special non-tariff provisions are involved.

    Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.

    Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.

    Performs related duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
    Education and Work Experience
    Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Financial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field and a minimum of ten years' experience in the energy industry with 3-5 years' experience effectuating transactions in the WECC wholesale power market , a minimum of five years' experience with direct people management or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Specialized Knowledge and Skills
    Excellent knowledge of the utility business and industry practices. In-depth understanding of the western energy market and products, WECC power system and wholesale market. Working knowledge of Federal and State regulatory processes. Demonstrated negotiation, contracting and economic evaluation skills. Proven management and supervisory skills. Demonstrated knowledge and negotiation of agreements involving the WSPP Master Agreement, the EEI Master Agreement, and the ISDA Master agreement. Ability to assertively negotiate transactions and settlements without losing composure. Ability to confidently speak to large groups of people when required and to develop effective relationship. Ability to address multiple issues at once and willingness to delegate to and mentor employees. Excellent critical thinking, project management, communication, decision making, presentation, human relations, and organization skills.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands
    General office environment. No special physical demands required. Occasional travel required.

    Compensation

    Annual Salary: $153,200 (Min) to $180,300 (Mid); Up to 20% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
