    Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
    The School of Education is an academic unit reporting to the Provost.

    The School is a major center of research, teaching, and public service within the State of North Carolina, the nation, and the world.

    The School offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs.

    The mission of the School of Education is to conduct research, and generate basic and applied knowledge about human development, educational technology and entrepreneurship, teaching and learning, school counseling, school psychology, administration, as well as educational policy and leadership; prepare leaders in the profession of education by conducting outstanding research, teaching, and service; and assist in the development of strong and effective public schools in North Carolina.

    In order to fulfill its mission, the School is organized into three academic divisions:
    (1) Culture, Curriculum, & Teacher Education (CCATE), (2) Learning, Development & Psychological Sciences (LDPS), and (3) Educational Policy, Organization, & Leadership (EPOL).


    Position Summary

    This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.

    UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

    The Undergraduate Advisor in the School of Education will assist with undergraduate student life, leadership, and engagement.

    The person in this position will meet 1:1 and in group settings with prospective and admitted students to our majors, minors, and affiliated programs.

    They will promote academic excellence and work collaboratively with school and campus partners to create an environment that our students can succeed in.


    This person will support and facilitate programming and offers opportunities to School of Education undergraduate students, linking academics to co-curricular activities.

    This person will play an active role in large events within the School of Education such as graduation, annual events and more.

    This person will also support special projects within the office of student affairs that support increasing our enrollment and connections within the school, campus community and community partners.

    Specifically, this position will do the following:

    • Assist with advising for all undergraduate students in the School of Education
    • Directly advise Undergraduate Advisory Council to enhance social, community and professional development programming for undergraduate students
    • Serve on School and campus-based communities
    • Assist Director of Advising & Student Engagement with enhancing student success from a holistic perspective by working with campus partners

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.


    Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required
    • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, presentation, and public speaking skills
    • Ability to work with diverse populations and communities
    • Working knowledge of best advising and student engagement experiences in higher education
    • Computer proficiency, especially Excel and the ability to learn new databases
    • Ability to solve problems, make decisions and work with little daily supervision
    • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills and a commitment to detail and follow through
    • Demonstrated ability to work with a team of staff, students, and/or faculty to accomplish goals set forth by School
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as a part of a team and maintaining positive professional relationships

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    • A master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or College Student Development or related degree is preferred
    • Minimum of three years' experience working in higher education with academic/student advising, co-curricular student programming, and execution preferred
    • Experience in developing strategic outcomes for academic advising plans
    • Demonstrated understanding of issues of diversity and demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in engagement with faculty, staff and students
    • Experience conducting a Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education Assessment and/or self-study
    • Experience in assessment of outcomes related to academic advising and student leadership/engagement

    Special Physical/Mental Requirements

    • Some occasional evening and weekend hours are required
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously with appropriate sensitivity

    Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
    This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act.

    This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
