    Job Title: Medical Lab Generalist

    Department: Laboratory Services

    Direct Supervisor: Laboratory Supervisor

    Classification: Full-Time

    Pay Range: $24-28/hr DOE

    General Summary

    Under the general supervision The Lab at Seascape Administration Team and the Direct

    Supervisor, the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) comprehends and follows

    established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis.

    The MLT shall perform procedures in one or more of these technical disciplines that

    require limited independent judgment: chemistry, microbiology, immunology, hematology,

    immunohematology and molecular diagnostics. The MLT shall perform and document QC

    procedures; review QC data and maintain records as outlined in the Clinical Laboratory

    Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and other relevant state and federal regulations. The

    MLT shall recognize unexpected results and instrument malfunction and take appropriate

    action. The MLT shall maintain and prepare reagents. The MLT shall perform scheduled

    and unscheduled instrument maintenance. The MLT shall provide laboratory information

    to authorized sources. The MLT shall demonstrate laboratory technical skills to other

    laboratory personnel, as directed.

    Essential Functions & Accountabilities

    Perform all tasks according to established policies and procedures. Verify patient identity

    throughout the entire testing process. Operate in compliance with all section accreditation

    standards and state/federal licensure. Per protocol, perform all required quality control and

    maintenance procedures with complete and accurate documentation. Take appropriate

    action in accordance with laboratory protocols when QC/instrument/equipment problems

    are encountered, including, but is not limited to: attempting repairs in consultation with The

    Lab at Seascape Administration team, calling support hot-lines, and initiating back up

    procedures. Perform all assigned proficiency testing per written protocol.

    Call all critical/significant values as soon as available and document action per protocol.

    Complete all QC/PI/QA assignments within the requested time as assigned. Complete

    Online Variance Reports within 72 hours, as needed.

    Follow through on all tests, procedures, or tasks left from the previous shift, and report any

    incomplete assignments to ensure continuity of procedures, including reviewing and

    resolving all incomplete and/or un-received work logs throughout and at the end of each

    work shift to minimize work left for the next shift. Communicate all necessary information to

    ensure work is completed without interruption of service. Consult with the lead tech,

    supervisor, or pathologist prior to releasing test results whenever test findings are

    inconsistent with the clinical picture or whenever difficulties with the procedure are

    encountered and are unresolved. Identify, investigate, and communicate appropriately all

    unusual/unexpected results or situations.

    Embrace a safety culture by ensuring all Infection Control/Safety protocols are always

    followed. Ensure adequate staff is on-site prior to departure at the end of each shift. Arrange

    for appropriate coverage whenever changing individual schedules and obtain prior approval

    from appropriate Lab at Seascape Administration team member(s). Immediately notify

    appropriate Lab at Seascape Administration team member(s) of any inappropriate conduct

    on the part of any other Lab at Seascape employee or sub-contractor.

    Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by utilizing all supplies appropriately to avoid

    wastage. Recognize low inventory situations and alert appropriate personnel in a

    timely manner. Inventory and/or order section supplies to ensure adequate stock is

    available as assigned by/or in the absence of the supervisor or lead tech. Replace all

    supplies used during the shift to ensure volumes are sufficient for the following shift

    and properly disposes of waste. Respond to changes in workload as necessary;

    continually using time to departmental advantage.

    Remain up to date with changes to clinical and best-practices as they relate to

    medical laboratory technical skills, by actively seeking and engaging in professional

    learning opportunities including review of the literature and/or participation in trainings

    and certification programs.

    Assist coworkers with any difficult procedures/problems, including heavy workload.

    Perform other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

    Minimum Education & Experience

    Associate in Science in medical laboratory technology or 52-week military training certificate OR Senior Bachelor of Science student in Medical Technology, with successful completion of on-campus courses and currently participating in clinical laboratory rotations.
