    The Urology Cystoscopy Technician (UCT) supports the operational initiative to support the staffing component with an RN Circulating Nurse as an integral team member during Urology Cystoscopy Surgical Procedures.

    Under the supervision of the Patient Services Manager (PSM) and Assistant Patient Services Manager (APSM), under the direction of the Surgeon and Clinical Nurse performs perioperative accountabilities to support safe and effective patient care during cystoscopy surgical procedures.

    Responsibilities


    • 1. Demonstrates patient care concepts.
    • 2. Collaborates with perioperative team members in providing a safe and supportive environment for the patient.
    • 3. Performs patient care responsibilities consistent with age-specific criteria under the supervision of perioperative clinical nurse.
    • 4. Demonstrates the application of the principles of asepsis and disinfection in a knowledgeable manner in the care of supplies, instrumentation and the perioperative environment of care.
    • 5. Identifies the principles of sterile technique and applies these techniques when assisting each interventional procedure.
    • 6. Demonstrates a surgical conscience at all times.
    • 7. Sets up urology back table in a sterile manner for utilization during the surgical procedure.
    • 8. Scrubs in as a sterile team member and assists the surgeon as needed during the procedure.
    • 9. Verifies exposure to the proper sterilization process prior to opening instrumentation for procedure. Opens sterile supplies using sterile technique
    • 10. Assists in the preparation of the procedural operating room.
    • 11. Assists in selecting supplies and equipment for procedure.
    • 12. Identifies the appropriate types of equipment for procedures and reports defective material or equipment to nursing team members.
    • 13. Demonstrates knowledge of the step by step procedures for Urologic Cystoscopy Procedures.
    • 14. Adheres to standard precaution guidelines when handling/transporting specimens, cultures of blood samples to the laboratory.
    • 15. Assists in preparing all staffing assigned procedures
    • 16. Recognizes the importance of teamwork, professional behavior and 100% accountability within the operating room.
    Qualifications


    EDUCATION
    A minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Preferred Associate Degree or higher in a health care related field.


    EXPERIENCE


    Minimum of 1 year experience in the perioperative environment inclusive of the following positions; Operating Room Assistant, Technical Associate, Clinical Technician, Patient Care Technician or Central Sterile Technician.

    Technical positions in healthcare procedural departments also considered for position.

    All hired candidates must successfully complete the Urology Cystoscopy Competency Based Training and Practicum including age-specific competencies within three months of starting the position.


    PHYSICAL DEMAND


    The UCT is required to adhere to all perioperative guidelines and protocols associated with Surgical Attire, Personal Protection Equipment and Sterile Technique.

    The working environment of the Operating Room (ORs) requires standing 90% of the scheduled work day during surgical cystoscopy procedures.

    Ability to lift up to 36 pounds, handle highly-stressful physical and interpersonal situations, do repetitive work, cleaning ORs, assisting with patient transport and positioning, wearing lead protection during radiologic procedures and transport of supplies and instrumentation.

    Able to cope with repeated skin scrubbing and withstand variation in operating room temperatures.
