    Description

    This position is part-time with a potential for full-time in the future. Playing one of the most crucial roles in the direct care of all PAWS Chicago internal animals, Animal Caregivers are responsible for the daily care and cleaning of all animals in the adoption program within PAWS Chicago. This includes: daily feeding, watering and cleaning of all animal areas (both dogs and cats). Also requires walking of dogs.

    Animal Caregivers must be willing to work closely with volunteers/staff. They are responsible for closely monitoring medical/behavioral observation logs to ensure each animal is receiving the PAWS Chicago care standard. They must obey any animal exercise restrictions.

    In addition, to caring for all of the internal animals at PAWS Chicago, Animal Caregivers are also responsible for ensuring that common areas that are a part of the Lincoln Park Adoption Center are clean and maintained. This includes: vacuuming, mopping, sweeping and taking out trash for all kennels and common areas (playroom, walkways, spa room, and laundry and storage areas).

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Following cleaning, feeding and watering protocols to maintain the health of the animals.

    Responsible for ensuring the checklist items are done on a daily basis as assigned.

    Ensuring the housing areas are organized and presentable. The dogs should have a Kuranda beds, blankets, toys, etc. The cats should also have appropriate blankets, toys, etc.

    Maintaining animal/cleaning supplies inventory by notifying management to replenish stock with adequate notice.

    Communicating any observed animal health and/or behavioral changes to the Animal Care Manager or Lead Animal Caregiver.

    Preparing animals prior to surgical procedures by withholding food and displaying proper notice as requested.

    Be able to drive transport van and assist with transport of animals offsite.

    Other duties as requested.

    Education Requirements

    Graduation from a high school or the equivalent (GED) is required.

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree is preferred

    Experience Requirements

    Previous experience performing animal care activities is desirable.

    Note: An individual may still qualify if they have a combination of education, experience and/or training that can provide the level of knowledge, skills and ability required for this position.

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time.

    Ability to work in all weather conditions.

    Ability to lift 40 lbs.

    Ability to perform physical tasks that include but are not limited to climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, crawling, holding and lifting.

    Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that may include rubber/latex gloves, face shields, and eye goggles.

    Ability to work in small, confined places.

    Additional Requirements

    Available to work at least one day of the weekend, holidays, and special events.

    A valid drivers license with a good driving record is preferred.
