Staff Nurse, Adult Electrophysiology Lab – UI Heart and Vascular Center - Iowa City, IA

+ Ensure open and effective channels of communication with patients, family/caregivers, and all health care team members involved in the pre/intra/post-care of EP patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide pre/intra/post procedure nursing care (assessment, monitoring, intervention and education) related to diagnostic and interventional procedures including (but not limited to) EP studies, ablations, pacemaker insertions
- Monitor scrub circulate transport patient administer intravenous oral medications manage patients under procedural sedation assist collection arterial venous blood samples respiratory gases actively monitor patient during cardiac studies participate life-saving measures defibrillation cardiopulmonary resuscitation needed obtain/record hemodynamic electrical angiographic data using hemodynamic electrical amplifiers digital line fluoroscopic equipment prep patient equipment EP procedures site entry draping arrangement sterilized instruments/catheters calibrating setting up pressure transducers tubing troubleshoot equipment issues initiate repair coordinate patient/lab scheduling ensure procedural success maximum lab/provider efficiency demonstrate competency conscious sedition administration 3D mapping EP recording pacing stimulation ablation generators recognition cardiac rhythms apply nursing theory assessment diagnosis treatment evaluation patient responses health illness procedure positively collaborate continuum care multi-disciplinary team provide effective communication/counsel patient caregiver family member as needed discharge instructions teaching wound care return visit etc serve clinical preceptor new agency nursing staff perform patient according priority interventions identified through nursing diagnoses departmental divisional unit policies procedures protocols safe environment patients visitors staff document/report interventions patent/family response follow universal precautions follow policies regulations set forth University Iowa Health Care Department Nursing UI Heart Vascular Center University Iowa.
