    Bookkeeper / Part Time Accountant

    About Houston Childrens Charity and the position

    Houston Children's Charity is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Greater Houstons underprivileged, abused, and disabled children who have been otherwise left behind. The scope of our support is limited only by the availability of resources. Our goal is to leave no legitimate request for assistance unanswered.

    We are hiring for a Part- time Bookkeeper 3 days a week, who will assist in the financial management aspects of the organization. The ideal candidate possesses skills in project management, understands target audiences, and has the ability to work efficiently and effectively with colleagues and vendors. This position involves contact with both clients and organizations. Some duties include:

    A/R; A/P; Payroll / Payroll liabilities; Monthly Bank Reconciliations; Prepare Bank deposits and Invoices;

    *MUST have QuickBooks experience

    Responsibilities

    1. Purchase supplies and equipment as authorized by management

    2. Monitor office supply levels and reorder as necessary

    3. Pay invoices in a timely manner

    4. Take all reasonable discounts on supplier invoices

    5. Pay any debt as it comes due for payment

    6. Issue invoices to customers / tax receipts to customers as paid

    7. Ensure that receivables are collected promptly

    8. Record cash / check receipts and make bank deposits

    9. Conduct a monthly reconciliation of every bank account

    10. Conduct periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy

    11. Issue financial statements for the Board of Directors and year-end (graphics included)

    12. Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit

    13. Maintain an orderly accounting filing system

    14. Maintain the chart of accounts

    15. Maintain the annual budget

    16. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management

    17. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements bi-monthly and quarterly taxes

    18. Process payroll in a timely manner

    19. Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested

    20. Follow accounting policies and procedures

    21. Other duties as assigned by the President & CEO

    Desired Qualifications: The bookkeeper candidate should have an Associate's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience, as well as a knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles. Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of the QuickBooks accounting software package. Should be very detail oriented. All of the above duties and responsibilities are under the guidance and complete under sight of the President and CEO.
