    Job Description
    The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory treatments, performing patient transport, and evaluating patient needs. They recommend treatment plans and explain procedures and equipment to patients, ensuring they receive the appropriate education upon discharge.

    Responsibilities

    Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, and aerosol devices.

    Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods.

    Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.

    Review chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.

    Perform pulmonary function studies as needed.

    Assist with respiratory care procedures like bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.

    Perform tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.

    Carry out arterial puncture for ventilation efficiency determination and test result monitoring.

    Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines.

    Maintain accurate respiratory therapy records and charges.

    Communicate with physicians regarding therapy efficacy.

    Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
    Current Virginia license is required.
