    Job Summary

    Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting for a Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our GI Division.

    Under the direction of a physician, the APP performs professional medical work in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of patients according to statutory limitations.

    The position is for outpatient clinic encounters with no nights, weekends, or call responsibilities.

    The APP will examine and diagnose patients and develop treatment plans independently but with support from the GI faculty who are on campus daily.

    Responsibilities will include ordering testing referrals to physicians as needed, writing prescriptions, and performing administrative procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment.

    The position may include administrative support functions as needed.

    Essential Functions:

    Performs direct patient care examining, diagnosing and analyzing the total patient health condition, developing short and long term patient care goals and prescribing treatment according to statutory limitation and under the direction of a physician.

    (10%) Performs advanced professional nursing practice by collecting health problem information for special assigned patients such as substance abuse, OSHA, geriatrics, and adolescents.

    Analyzes present patient care and the responses to the present care, and develops the patient care plan and treatment. (10%) Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records.

    (10%) Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area.

    Initiates, performs or directs other nurses to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. (10%) Participates as a preceptor for medical students, interns, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. (10%) Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

    (10%) May be assigned to perform leadwork and/or involvement in clinical coordination, health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment.

    (10%) Attends administrative staff meetings to present clinical concerns.

    Utilizes the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies.

    (10%) Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, receiving current literature, and attending inservice meetings and workshops.

    Attends, participated in, and contributes to in-services, education, and staff training sessions to maintain/increase skills and teach others. (10%)


    Education:
    Master's Degree Required

    Work Experience: 1-3 years related clinical experience preferred

    Licenses:
    NP or PA Colorado License BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Knowledge of nursing principals and procedures. Knowledge of community resources for appropriate procedures. Knowledge of pediatric nursing techniques and methods. Skill in medical instrument and laboratory equipment use. Skill in applying clinical service practices. Physical health as essment skills.

    Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies.

    Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments.
