Description Summary

The Human Resources Officer provides oversight for all human resource functions across the organization which includes Midwest Independent Bancshares, Inc. and subsidiaries Midwest Independent BankersBank, MIB Banc Services, and First Bankers' Banc Securities, Inc. The Human Resources Officer is responsible for talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, payroll, performance management, training and development while ensuring compliance with employment laws and fostering a strong, engaged, and inclusive workplace culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Develop and execute HR strategies that support the organization's mission and values.
  • Advise leadership on HR matters, culture, and engagement.
  • Lead HR initiatives that promote a positive, inclusive, and ethical workplace.
  • Talent Acquisition and Staffing

  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies.
  • Implement onboarding processes that promote early engagement from applicant status and throughout the employment cycle. 
  • Employee Relations and Culture

  • Provide guidance to managers on employee relations, performance concerns, conflict resolution, and corrective actions.
  • Manage investigations, corrective actions, and disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Coordinate employee recognition programs including service awards, employee of the quarter, employee of the year, and employee appreciation week activities.
  • Coordinate various special events as well as employee lunch and learn programs.
  • Compensation and Benefits

  • Administer the benefits program including health, dental, vision, COBRA, workers comp, 401k plan, cafeteria plan, EAP, etc.
  • Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and benefits renewal review.
  • Manage compensation structures, job evaluations, salary surveys.
  • Oversee payroll administration.
  • Administer the deferred compensation program; prepare quarterly and annual reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure full compliance with federal and all applicable state laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, etc.), and HR-related bank regulations.
  • Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and Employee Handbook.
  • Prepare documents, data, and information to support internal and external HR-related audits.
  • Oversee accurate reporting for regulatory and internal reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with employee required training.
  • Performance Management and Development

  • Lead the performance management process, including performance reviews and documentation.
  • Administer the tuition reimbursement program that supports employee development.
  • HR Operations

  • Oversee HRIS administration, data integrity, and reporting.
  • Manage HR vendor relationships, contracts, and service quality.
  • Responsible for overseeing the processing of monthly invoices and reconciliations.
  • Additional Duties:

  • Responsible for Bank Secrecy Act compliance where applicable in reference to this position.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • This position supervises the Payroll and Benefits Specialist.   
    • Work Environment:

    • This position operates in a professional office setting. 
    • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners.
    • Physical Demands:

    • Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. May require lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires sufficient manual dexterity to operate standard office machines such as computers, scanners, calculators, telephones, and other office equipment.
    • Requires a normal range of hearing and vision.
    • Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

    • This is a full-time position.*Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • Flexible work schedules maybe allowed when it is feasible, it allows the employee to perform the essential functions of the job and will in no way interfere with providing efficient and effective services.

      Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
    • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience in developing, implementing, and managing HR programs, benefits, compensation program, the payroll function, negotiating and contracting with vendors. 
    • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
    • HR certification (SPHR, SHRM-SCP) highly preferred.
