- Coordinates community health events including, but not limited to health fairs and free blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI screenings at various locations.
- Recruits clinical staff to work the events. Provides follow-up on abnormal screening results. Includes maintenance and upkeep of screening equipment and supplies.
- Develops/identifies and distributes health education to communities and community groups. Activities include : developing/identifying presentations and collateral materials on relevant health topics and disseminating as requested or as opportunities present. Venues include hospital Facebook pages and digital signage; civic and service organizations; churches; and other groups.
- Responsible for the collection and tracking of the Community Benefit Reporting documentation.
- Assists in the execution a Community Health Assessment for the hospital in conjunction with the health department and develops an appropriate action plan.
- Assists in public relations and community engagement activities.
- Interfaces directly with executive leadership and department managers to develop, initiate, maintain and provide follow-up on community outreach activities.
- Develop educational programs to promote prevention, early detection of chronic disease and cancer.
- Prepares and submits monthly reports in a timely manner to Manager describing activities related to key responsibilities.
- Utilizes social media and print media to publicize community events and activities.
- Implements other appropriate duties/projects as assigned by the management staff.
- Represents hospital at local functions as needed.
- Provides leadership and represents ECU Health Community Hospital on various local committees and boards.
- Manages special projects and/or events assigned by the leader of marketing and/or public relations.
- Education: Minimum requirement of a Bachelor degree in allied health, health education, public health, health promotion or related field- or higher.
- Associates degree in appropriate field, plus two additional years of related experience beyond the minimum requirement may substitute for the education requirement.
- Experience: 1- 3 year of experience in a related field and a record of strong community relations and outreach skills
- Special qualifications: The person serving in this position should possess an outgoing personality, enjoy interacting with people, project a professional demeanor and have good organizational and writing skills.
- Some events take place on weekends where candidate would be required to help on-site with event (Occasional Saturday Shifts)

ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital is a full-service, 117-bed acute care facility where residents of Tarboro and the surrounding communities can receive a wide range of health services close to home. As part of the ECU Health system of care, the hospital offers high quality care provided by more than 20 medical specialists, rehabilitation services, a birthing center, a cancer center, outpatient clinics and more.
Position Summary
The Community Health Improvement Coordinator plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates community health activities for the service area of the ECU Health Community Hospital. Community health activities are directly related to the hospital's community health implementation plan, which addresses priority health needs identified in the community health assessment. The coordinator works with the health department, schools, churches, businesses, civic organizations and other groups in providing activities that encourage a healthy lifestyle and improved health in the community. Activities include but are not limited to free screenings, education sessions, and health fairs.
