    The Lawrence, Kansas facility is 236,000 square feet and home to about 155 hard working team members who are proud to produce iconic pet food brands like Kibbles 'n Bits. Lawrence is a college town and the home to both the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University with Kansas State University about 85 miles away. The city is known for a thriving music and art scene and is also the home of the University of Kansas athletic teams.

    Schedule: Monday-Friday

    General Purpose

    This position will support the Food Safety/Sanitation initiatives. The Food Safety Technician will directly work with the plant personnel to help assure that the Lawrence facility meets or exceeds food safety & sanitation initiatives and expectations as directed by the QFS Supervisor and plant policies/procedures.

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct internal Food Safety & Sanitation audits
    • Maintain oversight & upkeep of the Environmental Monitoring Program
    • Gather, plate, read and document in house micro activities
    • Conduct ATP testing on post sanitation cleanups and supply needed feedback of results
    • Assist with the upkeep of the Master Cleaning Schedules and their documentation
    • Oversee assigned pre-requisite programs
    • Assist in developing, writing, and maintaining Food Safety Procedures
    • Complete daily plant inspection and enter work requests as needed
    • Operate forklifts, scissor/boom lifts, floor sweeper/scrubbers as needed & change forklift batteries
    • Conduct the daily activities of the janitorial tasks
    • Assist in the oversight of the plant recycle program
    • Maintain chemical dispensing stations, footbaths, and inventory of their chemicals

    Qualifications

    • Undergraduate degree in animal science, feed science, life science or equivalent preferred
    • Demonstrated leadership skills (including communication skills) that pursue the general intent of the plant policies and procedures
    • Willingness to make decisions, acts upon them, and accept accountability
    • Manufacturing, food safety and quality experience
    • Laboratory experience preferred
    • Willingness to obtain further Food Safety education
    • Ability to provide training and instruction in Food Safety Methods & Equipment
    • Must have excellent computer skills in: Microsoft Excel, MS Word, MS Access, PowerPoint
    • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques. Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds
    • Strong mechanical aptitude combined with good diagnostic skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment as well as cross-functionally
    • Basic safety knowledge
    • Ability to organize and execute several responsibilities that take place simultaneously through establishment of priorities, action plan, calculation of risk and re-assessment
