    General Position Summary

    The Corrections Deputy maintains security, manages and supervises inmates in the Klamath County Jail, and other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Education, Certification, & Experience
      • Oregon Driver's License
      • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
      • 21 years of age
      • Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Basic Certification, which must be obtained within one year after employment. Must possess physical capabilities as demanded by DPSST
      • First Aid Certificate, required upon DPSST Certification and periodic renewal thereafter
      • CPR Certification, required upon DPSST certification and periodic renewal thereafter
      • Ability to be sworn as a Police Officer in accordance with Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS
      • Current or recent experience as a Police Officer, Corrections Officer, or Police Reserve Officer is desirable but not required
    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
      • Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
      • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
      • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
      • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Beacon Database software; Internet software; Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word, Word Processing software.

    Salary and Benefits

    This is an hourly, non-exempt position with the Corrections Deputy wage range being $ $32.50 per hour The pay ranges listed here reflect the FULL pay range for this position for the current fiscal year. Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Work Schedule

    The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day, 5 days a week, 10.00 hours a day, 4 days per week, or 12.00 hours per day, 3-4 days per week. Exact schedules are assigned by management and likely to include weekends and holidays.

    It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
