- Being the course leader for 1-2 courses per semester
- Oversee and instruct dental hygiene students in the care of patients
- Laboratory, pre-clinic and/or clinical instruction to dental hygiene students
- Assist dental hygiene students as they generate comprehensive treatment and prevention/management plans for their patients; ensure the treatment plans are comprehensively developed, appropriately adapted to the patients needs, and correctly sequenced to manage patient oral health needs
- Work with staff, students and patients to ensure patients receive high-quality care, and students receive clinical education that meets the standards of the Department of Dental Hygiene
- Support all clinical policies an procedures of the University of South Dakota, School of Health Sciences, Department of Dental Hygiene
- Attend department meetings to stay current with the Department of Dental Hygiene policies, teaching methods, and best practices
- Additional responsibilities will include committee assignments and service
- Must be a dental hygienist who is a graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
- Master's degree in dental hygiene or a doctorate in a related field
- A current South Dakota dental or dental hygiene license in good standing or the ability to obtain such license.
- Experience as an educator within a CODA accredited dental hygiene program
- Health Care Provider CPR Certification
- South Dakota Certification to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in clinical practice
- Demonstrates commitment to community engagement

The School of Health Sciences and the Sanford School of Medicine share a mutual vision for interprofessional education and are both housed under the Division of Health Affairs.
The Dental Hygiene program delivers a Baccalaureate degree and is the only dental hygiene program in the state of South Dakota.
As an instructor for the Department of Dental Hygiene you will be responsible for didactic and clinical teaching. You will be required to travel between both our Sioux Falls and Vermillion locations.

Enrolling over 2,100 students, the USD School of Health Sciences is the only comprehensive School of Health Sciences in the state and is a leader in interprofessional education.
The School of Health Sciences is home for eleven graduate degree majors, six undergraduate degree majors, four minors, and five certificate programs.
