- Oversees and is responsible for all activities related to the procurement, receipt, storage, and return of all pharmaceuticals in accordance with Policy and State and Federal Law.
- Reviews and reorders pharmacy stock and supplies and updates inventory to maintain correct par levels to keep adequate stock levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies.
- Coordinates inventory monthly for expired pharmaceuticals, following proper stock rotation procedures, and seeks reimbursement from the manufacturer involved.
- Keeps accurate records of all purchase orders placed, and ensures purchasing records are consistent with the Summary Bill notification.
- Adheres to all purchasing contracts using these whenever possible to maintain contract compliance.
- Monitors budgeted pharmaceutical cost versus revenue. Monitors and maintains an acceptable turnover rate. Explains in writing why purchases are over budget.
- Reviews all recalls immediately upon receipt; pulls recalled medications, and returns to appropriate manufacturer/wholesaler for reimbursement. Maintains required documentation of pharmacy's response to recall. Responds in a timely manner of findings from recall.
- Conveys all back-order information to the department in a timely manner.
- Ensures monthly interdepartmental billing for items sent to other practices sent to accounting for processing.
- Reviews orders daily for maintenance update (340B facilities) and performs proper maintenance for software compliance in ordering.
- Coordinates with appropriate departments to implement EMR charge codes and mnemonics as appropriate.

Purchases pharmaceuticals, controlled substances and related supplies and is responsible for all activities related to the procurement, receipt, storage, and return of all pharmaceuticals and supplies.
Essential Functions
Physical Requirements
Works primarily in the pharmacy. Delivers medications to nursing units. Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing mobile cart of 50 pounds maximum and lifting 25 pounds of material. May be required to frequently stretch, bend, squat, or kneel to perform job. Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment to minimize exposure to hazardous agents. Takes necessary precautions to avoid inadvertent needle sticks, minor cuts or bruises. Exposed to various conditions throughout the workday such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs and changes in temperature and humidity. Must be able to perform manipulative skills such as writing, typing, and data entry into the computer and automated dispensing machines. Must have use of both hands, be able to see clearly and read small type such as that on unit-dose medication packages and syringes. Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively. Must be able to hear normal sounds with moderate background noises. Involves rotating shifts.
Education, Experience and Certifications
High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration or comparable college degree preferred. Prior hospital pharmacy technician experience required. Certification of graduation from a pharmacy technician training program and/or 2 years hospital pharmacy experience in purchasing required. Working knowledge of computer software and departmental equipment, including but not limited to Connect SMO, electronic medical record, ConnectRx (if applicable) and a DSCSA approved vendor's software required. Pharmacy technician certification (CPhT), experience with pharmacy purchasing, IV mixing, 340B knowledge- preferred. Computer skills (especially with Excel)- preferred
