Description

1. Maintain a current Dental Hygiene License, including participating in Continuing Education Courses.
2. Per Dental Board of California Section 1088 and 1910, perform the following RDH duties under general supervision:

• Periodontal charting;
• Oral prophylaxis;
• Scaling and Root Planing;
• Intra and Extraoral examination of soft tissue; Application of topical, therapeutic, and subgingival agents used for the control of caries and periodontal disease (including fluoride)
• Application of non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents;
• Pit and fissure sealants;
• Irrigate sub-gingivally with an antimicrobial and/or antibiotic liquid solution(s).
• Polish and contour restorations;
• Oral exfoliative cytology.

• Periodontal soft tissue curettage;
• Administration of local anesthesia;
• Placement of antimicrobial or antibiotic medications which do not later have to be removed;

1. Understanding of Insurance Coverage as follows.

• General knowledge of Direct Care, CHS, and SHCF coverage (with training provided by TMWIHC staff); General knowledge of Medi-Cal and CMSP coverage;
• General knowledge of Private Insurance coverage and pre-authorization requirements;
• Understanding that an individuals insurance coverage does not change the recommended treatment

1. Be familiar with the aims and objectives of the Health Center and express a genuine enthusiasm for its success.
2. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
3. The ability to appropriately and professionally interact with and to get along well with others is an essential function of this position.
4. Other duties as assigned.

1. Must have a current, valid Dental Hygienist license issued by the California Dental Board
2. One-year of prior work experience, preferably in a clinic setting.
3. Must possess and maintain valid CPR certification.
4. Must possess periodontal soft tissue curettage certification.
5. Must have the ability to work in an independent and self-directed manner and assume individual initiative. Must be willing and have the ability to accept supervision and to follow directions.
6. Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must possess sufficient written and verbal communication skills to be able to interact with medical professionals, vendors, and agencies in a professional manner, developing rapport and enhancing business relationships. Must have legible handwriting.
7. Experience with and the ability to operate Microsoft Office software is required. Experience working with the Dentrix and RPMS computer systems is preferred. Must possess skill in using computers and other office equipment; in composing correspondence; managing filing systems; gathering and summarizing information; and in planning, organizing, prioritizing, and executing complicated and continuing assignments. Must have the ability to correctly enter information and narratives in the electronic health record system.
8. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion and tact. Must have a general knowledge of and the ability to maintain HIPAA privacy requirements. Must sign a confidentiality statement.
9. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
