The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) professional staff is seeking a full-time Oral Surgeon to provide quality service in our progressive, innovative health care system for our Veterans hospital population.
The successful candidate as an Oral Surgeon would be proficient in all aspects of oral maxillofacial surgery and limited general dentistry procedures.
Surgery of the entire Maxillofacial Complex include extractions, dental Implants, anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery, surgical correction of maxillofacial skeletal deformities, orthognathic surgery, cleft and craniofacial surgery, maxillofacial trauma, temporomandibular joint, pathologic conditions, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.
The Dental Service is comprised of 7 general dentist, 1 prosthodontist, 1 periodontist, 1 endodontist, 14 dental assistants, 2 lab techs, 6 hygienist, 3 medical support assistants, and an Administrative Officer.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.

Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Dentist Basic Requirements* (2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~
Note:
Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform the duties physically and mentally in a hospital setting under normal and emergent conditions.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.

The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C.
7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
