Founded by Salvadoran immigrants in 1983, La Clínica del Pueblo (La Clínica) was created as a place of refuge, healing, advocacy, and hope for those fleeing civil war, repression, and economic devastation in Central America.     About the Role

    The Director of Development is responsible for all aspects of La Clínica del Pueblo's fundraising program, including securing unrestricted financial resources with and through individuals, corporations, events, and special campaigns. They will play a critical role in bolstering La Clínica's sustainability and strategic growth.

    In this hands-on position, the Director of Development will actively secure funds and oversee the fundraising office's day-to-day operations, including staff supervision, event planning and the implementation of annual and corporate giving strategies.

    Working closely with leadership, the Development Director will identify opportunities, design creative initiatives, adapt to changes in the environment that could impact giving, and maintain and develop a high performing team collaborates effectively across the organization.

    Primary Relationships:

    • The Director reports to the Chief Development Officer and will work in partnership with the leadership team, board of directors, and internal and external stakeholders.
    • The Development Office includes Grants and Funded Contracts, Fundraising, and Communications, all of whom work in close collaboration to raise more than 10 million or nearly 60% of the organization's operational budget.
    • The Director will lead a team of 2 with a growth trajectory of 4 total staff by the end of 2024.
    • This is a full-me, permanent position. There is an exception to be on site for 4 days per week, with a 1-day remote option. Location is flexible within our DC sites and Hyattsville health center.

    Qualifications:

    Required Education, Skills, and Experience

    • 7+ years of professional fundraising experience; 3+ years of management or leading a team.
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    • Demonstrated track record of meeting revenue goals.
    • Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in working with individuals at all levels both internally and externally.
    • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff and delegate effectively to achieve objectives and deadlines.
    • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong group facilitation and training experience.
    • Data management and CRM experience.
    • Fluency in Microsoft Suite of Programs, with high competency in Excel.
    • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
    • Ability to complete some work outside of traditional business hours; ability to travel to off-site venues for meetings and events, primarily in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

    Preferred skills

    • Bilingual – Spanish and English.
    • Strong knowledge of philanthropy in the DC Metro Area.
    • Experience securing gifts of five figures and higher, as well as planned gifts.
    • Demonstrated commitment to the Latine community, social justice, and health equity.
    Duties and Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership

    • Assist with building the annual fundraising plan and budgeting processes, including analysis of fundraising strategies to model for increased revenue returns.
    • Guide and advise on funding potential through various activities that are based on historical trends, data, and current environment.
    • Set annual fundraising goals and metrics; monitor and track revenue projections to actuals and other fundraising metrics; regularly report to Chief Development Officer and leadership on status of quarterly and annual goals.
    • Serve as the Fundraising team's primary liaison with finance and compliance to ensure donor policies, processes and procedures are maintained, updated, and adhered to.
    • Establish and evaluate processes, tools, and systems to ensure high performance, quality, and efficiency of work across the unit and teams.
    • Support cross-departmental collaboration, and contribute to a culture of trust, transparency, teamwork, and excellence under the ethos that we are "one La Clínica" and everyone is a fundraiser.
    • In collaboration with cross-departmental leadership, develop the year-by-year development resource and staffing plan that builds towards future fundraising revenue growth.
    • Act as a spokesperson for La Clínica at external events and speaking engagements as needed, articulate organization's functions, priories, and areas of need with conviction.
    • Conduct administrative functions such as scheduling, timesheets, invoices, credit card reconciliation, and other ad hoc dues, as necessary.
    • Monitor fundraising spend and contracts in line with the approved annual budget.
    Donor Relations and Management
    • Oversee the operation and administration of our individual donors and corporate partners, whose annual revenue stream totals $1+million.
    • Develop and implement strategic engagement and solicitation strategies for both existing donors and prospects (e.g. virtual and In-person meetings, gatherings, and tours).
    • Develop, manage, and expand a portfolio of individual and corporate donors through prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
    • Execute an acquisition strategy within current activities to build a pipeline of new funder prospects. Oversee prospect screening and move management strategy.
    • Oversee monthly sustainer program ( del Pueblo); design and implement a recruitment strategy to grow this important sustainable income.
    Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations
    • Design, leverage, and implement campaigns and strategies to increase revenue through targeted digital/direct fundraising, strategic corporate partnerships, major/high net impact investors, planned giving, and special events.
    • Collaborate closely with the Chief Development Officer, Communications Director, Senior Design Specialist, and key staff to develop unified communications that meet organizational goals.
    • Lead planning and execution of signature event(s) to meet agreed fundraising outcomes, including effective engagement of volunteers, board members, and strategic stakeholders and ownership of sponsorship solicitation process.
    • Write impact-driven funding cases, proposals, appeal letters and donor communications that represent the key funding priority areas and vision, mission, and values of La Clínica.
    • Oversee the development of high-quality fundraising material and communications in alignment with priories, audience, and key strategies.
    Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Supervise 3 full-time Development staff: Development Manager, Donor Relations Officer, and Community Engagement Specialist in support of meeting annual fundraising goals and institutional priorities.
    • Recruit, hire, onboard, and train approved fundraising positions.
    • Align fundraising unit's staffing and resource investments to meet La Clínica's evolving needs and external funding trends.
    • Procure and oversee external Contractors, as needed, to support the unit.
    • Provide regular feedback, constructive and timely annual professional development plans.
