    This position will develop, plan and implement an educational program for residents in Linden House that meets their individual needs, interests and abilities as well as increasing self-motivation, independence, self-esteem and productivity. These tasks focus on supporting, instructing, and assisting residents to develop the skills needed to attain their educational goals. In addition, this position will advocate for the Linden House residents and support their families or other caregivers in their efforts to assist these individuals educationally.

    ESSENTIAL TASKS:

    1. Coordinate educational program with teacher aides, vocational and other rehabilitation services staff on-site and off-site at ICL facilities.
    2. Develop, plan and implement a curriculum that utilizes individual and small group instruction appropriate to functional and cognitive ability.
    3. Instruct individuals in academic subject, utilizing various teaching techniques, such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning.
    4. Order, maintain and utilize computer software and other educational/skills building equipment and materials as part of the learning process.
    5. Observe, evaluate and prepare reports on progress of each individual and share information with other rehabilitation staff providing service to the individual.
    6. Administer and interpret results of ability and achievement tests.
    7. Provide resource and referral information regarding additional learning opportunities and educational options
    8. Uses strength-based intervention, communication, and practices to build assets/resiliency.
    9. Models positive behaviors and implements the core values.
    10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    1. Basic knowledge of mental illness and serious emotional disturbances of children and adolescents.
    2. Basic knowledge of treatment, rehabilitation, and community support programs as they relate to children and adolescents.

    RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS:

    This position interacts with the residents and their families or caregivers, Counselors, Case managers, the Recreational/Educational/Vocational Specialist, and the school systems. They will report to the Program Director and/or Associate Program Director, as designated.

    MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Associate's degree plus a minimum of two years experience tutoring and/or teaching experience. Bachelor's degree with a minimum of one year experience. Preference will be given to applicants with tutoring/teaching experience with children/adolescents.
