    Job Description - Cafeteria Worker

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. High School Education
    2. Child Nutrition Training Certification
    3. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
    REPORTS TO AND SUPERVISED BY:

    Food Service Director/Cafeteria Manager

    EXPECTATIONS & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    (Note: Items marked as cashier apply only to cashier and cafeteria manager)
    • Prepares and serves food in a professional manner.
    • Reports to work on time and follows time clock procedures to document exact reporting and departure times.
    • Notify the cafeteria manager in a timely manner when unable to report to work.
    • Complies with the state policy governing the removal of food from the premises.
    • Abides by safety and sanitation regulations that are established by federal, state and local authorities.
    • Helps to maintains daily records of food withdrawn for inventory purposes and food production records.
    • Prepares sufficient quantities of food by using standardized recipes.
    • Maintains a clean work station and assists in afternoon cleanup and other related jobs as required.
    • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with school personnel, students and public.
    • Abides by uniform and hair net requirements established in the Child Nutrition Handbook.
    • Utilizes accurate portion control in preparing food.
    • Works cooperatively towards providing the most attractive and nutritious meals to all students.
    • Performs related duties as required including duties at special meal functions.
    • Follows correct procedure for money collection. (cashier)
    • Verifies amounts of monies received and credit to proper category, such as paid, reduced, teacher meals and extra food sales. (cashier)
    • Records meal numbers, protecting the identity of the free and reduced student. (cashier)
    • Has cashier station set up prior to meal serving time and has adequate supplies to meet necessary needs. (cashier)
    • Responds quickly to exchanges of monies and is efficient, competent and honest. (cashier)
    • Cleans cafeteria equipment including refrigerator, dishwasher, oven hood, stove, oven racks, maintains clean service and storage areas; defrosts, cleans and fills milk boxes, scrubs pots and pans; unloads, loads and operates dishwasher, maintains clean dish room and stores clean equipment and utensils; washes, dries and folds dish towels; cleans and sanitizes dining room counter tops, tables and chairs after each meal; sweeps and mops food prep area, and dish room floors; empties food prep area and dish room trash cans and disposes of trash; cleans and fills napkin, silverware and condiment holders; assists cook in preparing and serving food in a timely manner; assists in unpacking and storing food deliveries in proper places; breaks down cardboard boxes for recycling; prepares and sets out serving trays, condiments, cups and plates for meals; lifts and carries food cartons, garbage bags and serving containers; verifies equipment is turned off and locks up areas at end of day; assists in assigning, training and monitoring work of student helpers.
    • Follows the usual and customary safety and sanitation methods of performing the job's functions in the cafeteria
    • The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some climbing, balancing, frequent stooping. Kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury or illness
