Job DescriptionSECOND SHIFT
You will be the Optical Coater for the Optical Components Center (OCC) within Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control (MFC) in Orlando, FL.
Our team drives the production of advanced optical components—coatings, polished lenses, prisms, mirrors and test plates—that enable the world's most sophisticated weapon and sensor systems.
What You Will Be DoingAs the Optical Coater, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Your responsibilities will include
Interpreting manufacturing process plans, engineering drawings, and MIL specifications to perform coating, polishing, grinding and diamond‑turning of lenses, prisms, mirrors, shop aids and test plates.
Performing visual inspections, metrology checks, and documentation of all process parameters and results in electronic tracking systems.
Troubleshooting coating defects, adjusting process variables, and implementing corrective actions to sustain quality and yield.
Following safety protocols, PPE requirements and environmental regulations at all times.
Supporting 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift schedules as required by the UAW collective‑bargaining agreement.
Collaborating with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to drive continuous‑improvement initiatives, including process automation and waste reduction.
Assisting with inventory control of coating consumables, substrates and tooling.
Participating in cross‑training programs to increase workforce agility and eliminate single points of failure.

Basic Qualifications
- Must have the ability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift according to the collective bargaining agreement.
- Experience using hand tools, or precision machining tools.
- The ability to test parts to ensure they meet finished specifications.
- The ability to clean all types of optical elements to specified optical specifications.
- Must have the ability to read and follow written work instructions, schematics and engineering drawings and work effectively in a team environment.
- Due to facility requirements, must be a U.
Desired skills
Prior experience with optics at the technician level is strongly desired.
Experience with optical alignment and optical metrology.
Experience with optical coating.
Experience with interferometers and spectrometers.
Experience working as an optician with CNC machines.
Familiarity with the following items is desired: optical elements, lenses, rough and finish grind flats, mirrors, shop aids, test plates, and special shaped elements.
Experience with controlling contours, thickness wedge and surface quality.Experience with MIL-PRF-13830B and other related Optical MIL specifications.

Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedule Information
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed.
These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
