As the Director of Enterprise Operational Platforms and Automation at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT), you will lead the charge in transforming how we deliver reliable, efficient, and intelligent IT services across the enterprise.

In this strategic leadership role, you'll design and implement cutting‑edge operational platforms and automation capabilities, spanning observability, monitoring integration, workflow automation, enterprise integration (iPaaS), and AI‑driven operational intelligence. Your work will directly enhance service reliability, accelerate incident response, and drive innovation across a complex statewide technology ecosystem.

You'll collaborate with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams to set standards, mature enterprise capabilities, and ensure alignment with governance and security frameworks. As these services grow, you'll build and lead a high‑performing team, manage budgets and vendor partnerships, and champion initiatives that deliver measurable value and efficiency.

This position requires an employee to be onsite at 600 North Robert St. Saint Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of six (6) years of experience in enterprise IT operations leadership, including responsibility for delivering or supporting enterprise IT operations, infrastructure, end‑user services, or shared technology services in a large complex organization.

Experience must include:

• Three (3) years of supervisory experience, including team leadership, performance management, and workforce development.
• Experience working across multiple teams, departments, or organizational units to deliver shared technology services or enterprise initiatives.
• Experience building, implementing, or improving operational processes, technology service, or enterprise capabilities in environments with evolving needs and competing priorities.
• Ability to translate organizational or business needs into actionable service, operational, or technology improvements.
• Experience working with vendors, managed service providers, or cross‑organizational partners to deliver technology services or capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively to foster mutual understanding, and guide teams through change.
• Customer‑focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution‑oriented problem‑solving, complemented by formal or informal leadership and people engagement skills to deliver positive user experiences and high‑performing results.

Two (2) years of experience in a Systems Architect classification or two (2) years of experience in an external IT Architect role may substitute for two of the required years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five (5) or more years of managerial or senior leadership experience, with responsibility for setting direction, making operational or strategic decisions, and influencing outcomes across teams, functions, or organizational boundaries.
• Experience leading enterprise infrastructure, operations, end‑user services, or shared technology service functions.
• Experience working in large government, higher education, or similarly complex public‑sector environments.
• Experience building or maturing enterprise service capabilities such as service management, service desk, operational platforms, or resilience/continuity functions.
• Experience working in federated or multi‑agency environments.
