Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), including hallucinations, faithfulness, and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) quality.
- Experience in C++ and Python and building scalable test automation frameworks for non-deterministic AI systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
- Experience launching and maintaining high-availability consumer-facing AI products.
- Familiarity with testing multimodal systems (e.g.,Voice/Audio) and agents that perform actions (tool use).
- Understanding retail workflows (catalog, cart, checkout) and customer support nuances to better design user-centric test scenarios.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to interpret quality metrics, identify regression patterns, and drive data-informed modeling decisions

Join the Shopping Agent team to revolutionize retail with Gemini Enterprise for customer experience. Our mission is to build the operational backbone for modern commerce, embedding intelligence directly into a retailer's infrastructure to strengthen customer relationships. We are launching a rapidly deployable, multimodal shopping agent - a full-stack concierge capable of complex reasoning, virtual try-on, and seamless business and support. By leveraging Google's foundational AI (Gemini, Vertex AI), we aim to create a flywheel effect where every new agent enhances the entire ecosystem. You will help drive the quality of a product designed to transform brands from invisible warehouses into hyper-personalized, intelligent destinations.
Applied AI builds conversational agents deployed at a large scale that achieve very meaningful results in the real world. Some examples include the customer agent built for large call center environments, to fast food ordering handled by our Food AI agent. The team is transforming how enterprises connect with customers through the power of AI. We also offer unique experiences for team members where you get to work directly with the model builders (Google DeepMind / Vertex), learn and work with brilliant AI leaders, and have access to Global 1000 customers via our existing Google Cloud relationships. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.
- Lead the definition and execution of quality metrics for the shopping agent, ensuring response accuracy, safety, and brand alignment across multimodal interactions (text, voice, image).
- Design and implement automated evaluation pipelines and datasets for complex shopping journeys, including virtual try-on, reasoning, and support queries.
- Collaborate with research and modeling teams to perform quality hill-climbing for foundational models, optimizing prompts and grounding to reduce hallucinations and improve conversion outcomes.
- Develop robust integration tests for agentic actions (e.g., add-to-cart, checkout) and ensure seamless interoperability between the shopping agent and customer service agent platforms.
