    GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
    • Repair and maintain plant equipment and facilities to enhance a safe and efficient operation.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Make inspection tours of manufacturing areas to see that the equipment is operating smoothly and efficiently.
    • Make diagnosis of equipment which is malfunctioning by means of observing, listening and measuring critical measurable parameters; then making corrections and repairs such as:
    • Adjustment or changes in settings of complex equipment involving intricate adjustments and the use of special tools.
    • As required, replace parts such as gears, mechanical seals on pumps and agitators, cams, belts, shafts, etc.
    • After replacements are made, clean the equipment and make the necessary adjustments to assure a smooth and efficient operation.
    • As needed, dismantle equipment to make repairs and/or overhaul and reassemble equipment.
    • Assist in change-over of production lines from one product to another.
    • Instruct employees assigned to assist on specific jobs and give advice when lower level mechanic is working or training on unfamiliar equipment.
    • Notify supervisor when condition of equipment indicates the need for other skills.
    • Have method of communicating with plant personnel on off-shifts.
    • Work from blueprints and sketches to fabricate minor components for production equipment using basic machine shop equipment.
    • Perform plumbing functions (measure, cut, thread and hang pipe).
    • Performing piping and equipment work of moderate complexity as it relates to future process changes.
    • Perform millwright work in the form of equipment erection, locating and anchoring.
    • Maintain work areas and shop in neat and orderly condition. Clean up after each job.
    • Participate on various focus groups to enhance operations at the JANSSEN PHARMACEUTICALS, Inc. plant site as requested by supervision.
    • Complete training programs as requested by supervision.
    • Perform any other maintenance job as abilities are applicable.

    ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
    • Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines including FDA, EPA, OSHA and DEA. Complies with all company and site policies and procedures.
    • Assume responsibility for the environmental affects of work performed and for the identification and recording of environmental problems as they arise.
    • Follow all applicable aspects of the site Environmental Management System as it pertains to normal job duties.
    • Make routine priority decisions, questions instruction when aware of potential problems.
    • Understands and responsibly performs duties with attention to quality, safety and environmental matters. Items include; wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, recognizing, reporting and appropriately responding to hazards in the work area (spills/accidents/near misses), maintaining proper housekeeping at all times, properly labeling and storing chemical, plus all other relevant job requirements
    • Must be available to work overtime as assigned and on an emergency basis.
    • Comply with all safety rules, policies and procedures with the intent to maintain a safe working environment. Report all safety incidents, accidents, or injuries to supervision immediately.
    • Work on other projects or assignments as requested by management.
    • Work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays on a continuous and regular basis.
    • Attend all regularly scheduled safety meetings.

    Qualifications - External

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    • High school diploma and technical school training in a mechanical trade and industrial mechanical experience
    • at least four (4) years experience as an industrial mechanic; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and technical procedure manuals.
    • Write routine reports and correspondence.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Calculate figures and amounts and being able to use fractions, decimals, and percentages.
    Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    OTHER SKILLS ABILITIES OR QUALIFICATIONS:

    Ability to:
    • Replace of any pump mechanical seal without any assistance
    • Fabricate and install threaded piping as per engineering drawings
    • Erect, locate, and anchor equipment as per engineering drawings
    • Ability to work under hazardous conditions including strenuous exertion and chemical handling.
    • Computer literate

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
    • Must be able to work in confined spaces with supplied air.
    • Must be able to work at heights up to 30 feet.
    • Good physical fitness with capacity for lifting, pushing, and pulling 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to qualify for respiratory protective equipment use.
