General Summary
The Director of Operations provides strategic leadership, management, and vision to ensure appropriate operational controls, administrative processes, reporting systems, personnel, and infrastructure are in place to support business growth while maintaining financial strength and operational efficiency.
This role will lead a significant operational transformation, transitioning from a full-scale manufacturing model to a light assembly configuration within a highly regulated medical device environment. The Director will align operations strategy with overall business objectives while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.
Critical to success: Strong project management, SIOP and inventory management capabilities, and proven subcontractor/vendor management experience to deliver complex initiatives on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Lead operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, prioritizing initiatives and driving actions to completion.
Oversee major operational transformation projects, ensuring scope, timeline, and budget adherence.
Drive implementation of new technologies to enhance manufacturing and assembly capabilities.
Develop advanced operational capabilities aligned with short- and long-term business priorities.
Define operational strategy, vision, and organizational direction.
Foster a performance-oriented culture built on accountability, creativity, and measurable results.
Manage multiple high-impact initiatives simultaneously.
Optimize supply chain, inventory management, and logistics to ensure timely product delivery.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, FDA, and ISO regulatory standards.
Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Sales, Finance, and other departments to align operational goals with commercial strategy.
Implement best practices in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Manage subcontractors and external vendors to ensure quality, compliance, cost control, and on-time delivery.
Apply formal project management methodologies (PMP, Agile, etc.) to capital improvement and expansion initiatives.
KPIs & Success Metrics
Successfully complete transition to light assembly model within 12–18 months with no major operational disruptions.
Achieve 100% on-time completion of strategic projects within approved budgets.
Deliver 15–20% reduction in production cycle time within the first year.
Generate 10–15% cost savings through Lean and process optimization initiatives.
Maintain 100% compliance with FDA and ISO standards throughout transformation.
Sustain zero lost-time incidents and improve safety audit scores by 10% annually.
Improve SIOP forecast accuracy to ≥95% and maintain competitive inventory turns.
Maintain ≥95% on-time performance from subcontractors and vendors.
Improve employee engagement scores by 10% year-over-year during transformation.
Qualifications
Professional Experience
10+ years of progressive experience in operations, engineering, or maintenance leadership roles, preferably within FDA-regulated environments.
Demonstrated success managing large-scale operational transformation initiatives.
Proven project management and subcontractor/vendor management experience.
Education
Bachelor's Degree required in Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or related field.
PMP or equivalent project management certification strongly preferred.
