Description

The L.D. Batchelder Elementary School is in need of a General Music and Chorus Teacher Long-Term Substitute who can provide vocal instruction for grades 4 and 5, and general music instruction for grades K-5. The Music Teacher will help students acquire basic skills, understand music structure, take care of their vocals, and stay motivated throughout the chorus/general music curriculum, providing a meaningful musical experience.

This assignment is expected to run from September 3, 2024, to June 18, 2025, with new educators attending a two-day orientation session before the school year begins.

The school is actively working on creating a diverse workforce to ensure that all students feel welcomed, safe, and valued, and are supported in reaching their full potential.

Essential Duties

Plan a music program tailored to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
Extend student music experiences beyond the school into the wider community
Instruct chorus at all levels, from small groups to large ensembles, focusing on sight-reading and music literacy
Prepare and guide student musicians for school concerts
Collaborate with other Performing Arts Department staff for concert preparation
Maintain accurate records of student achievements
Communicate with parents/guardians when necessary
Recognize the importance of social-emotional development in children and have knowledge of child development in the music curriculum context
Follow other duties assigned by the Principal and/or Designee

Requirements

Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) license in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General, all levels
Master's Degree, preferred
Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations governing public schools
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
